Quality assurance is not only about meeting standards; it is about creating structured feedback loops that allow institutions to learn, adapt, and improve. These processes help identify key challenges and gaps across frameworks related to certification, self-assessment, and accountability.

At Maastricht School of Management’s Expert Centre on Emerging Economies (ECEE), we design capacity-building trajectories that support institutions in achieving specific objectives, whether as part of donor-funded projects or standalone consultancy assignments. Our work includes assessing existing QA systems, co-developing policies and feedback loops, and integrating quality assurance with monitoring, evaluation, project management, and communication frameworks to strengthen institutional performance and long-term impact.

Seeing the high level of informality, particularly among Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises, as a defining characteristic of emerging markets, understanding how these enterprises operate and contribute to business performance is essential for effective private sector development and better global management.

At Maastricht School of Management’s Expert Centre on Emerging Economies (ECEE), we translate insights on informal business practices (IBP) into applied research, policy advice, and business-oriented analysis to mitigate the challenges these practices present. Our advice to businesses goes beyond compliance, offering practical solutions for managing IBP to boost profitability and competitiveness.
