🏅It’s awards season! Nominations
for the 2024 ECHO Awards are now open!

The ECHO Awards are a prize for excellent talent in higher education with a specific focus on students with roots in Africa, Latin America, and/ or Asia, and on international students who are part of an underrepresented group in their own context.

How does the application process work for students at Leiden University?

🧐A staff member at Leiden University can nominate a student for the ECHO Awards, or a student can approach a staff member to request a nomination.

📝Send the following details to the Diversity and
Inclusion Expertise Office:
-Name and email address of the candidate
-Name and email address of the nominator, who must be a staff member from Leiden University
-Short recommendation by the nominator (ca.
250 words)
-CV and short motivation from the candidate (max 2 pages)
-The category of ECHO Awards you wish to nominate someone for/be nominated for

📧The nominator or candidate can send these details to [email protected] with the subject line: “Nomination ECHO Awards - [name candidate]” by the internal deadline of 29th April 2024 (please note that Leiden University’s internal deadline differs from the ECHO Awards’ final deadline)

🤝After candidates are selected, they will receive support with completing the official nomination procedure.

Do you have any questions about the ECHO
Awards? DM us on Instagram or email us at [email protected]!

📌Here’s your quick guide to how a
meme battle works:
1. Participants are split into two groups.
2. Both groups get the same meme template which they fill with their own examples of and references to anti-Asian racism.
3. Once the memes are complete, the audience votes. The group with the most votes wins!
On the 21st of March, meme battles discussing anti-Asian racism will be held at Wijnhaven, at the lounge area behind the Spanish Steps, from 11:00
to 15:00.
The travelling public installation by the about anti-Asian racism - recognizable by its huge information panels - wil help discuss experiences of racism in an accessible way and indicate means to recognize, deal with, and speak up about microaggressions.
The event invites all kinds of perspectives and discussions (not just about anti-Asian racism) and is free and open to all (no registration required)!
We hope to see you (and your best meme game) this coming Thursday!
