Specialist toerisme toekomstonderzoek en scenarioplanning | ETFI Ons toekomstonderzoek & scenarioplanning maakt overheden, bedrijven en onderwijs in vrije tijd, recreatie en toerisme veerkrachtiger

Second year NHL Stenden Tourism Management students have worked in collaboration with ETFI and a DMO on potential futures of 12 Dutch destinations.

During the Futures Café on the 20th of January 2022, the students will pitch their visualizations of these potential futures. We are thrilled that the students are able to gain real-life experiences, working together with us at ETFI, Kennisnetwerk Destinatie Nederland, and the industry.

Gister waren een paar van onze collega’s op bezoek bij het Wieringer Eiland Museum Jan Lont voor het Wij en Wadvogels project. Het was een interessante dag met presentaties een bezoek aan het museum en een wandeling over de dijk.

In dit project participeren 9 natuurorganisaties die als doel hebben om fysieke maatregelen in het Waddengebied uit te voeren die ertoe moeten leiden dat de natuurlijke leefomgeving van vogels in het Waddengebied wordt verbeterd. Daarnaast heeft het project als doel om bewustwording te creëren van, en draagvlak te vergroten voor, vogels en vogelbeschermingsmaatregelen in het Waddengebied onder bewoners, bezoekers en ondernemers.

Vandaag is de 40ste editie van het Trendrapport toerisme, recreatie en vrije tijd gepubliceerd. Het rapport kwam ook dit jaar tot stand in samenwerking met de markt, het onderwijs en de overheid; NRIT, NBTC, CELTH en CBS. Onze eigen Jasper Heslinga heeft vanuit CELTH hieraan meegewerkt.

In deze editie blikken we terug op een bewogen 2020, met een doorkijk naar 2021. In 2020 hadden we na een mooie zomer nog hoop dat we in 2021 de weg naar het nieuwe normaal weer konden inslaan. Helaas maakten nieuwe besmettingsgolven en varianten ons pijnlijk duidelijk dat we nog lang met corona zullen moeten leven.

We are proud to announce that the time has come for ETFI to share our expertise in strategic foresight and scenario planning with the world. Our own experts Albert Postma, Stefan Hartman and Ian Yeoman are currently working on the second ETFI book!

This book will focus on how scenario planning can be used as a tool for research into the future of tourism, as well as how to approach scenario planning. The book will be for both practitioners and students and will be published next year in the Channel View series of The Future of Tourism.

Regenerative tourism: The next step in sustainable tourism | CBI The focus of sustainable tourism is changing. It is moving from minimising the negative effects of a holiday to contributing to the development of local communities. This offers interesting opportunities for communities and businesses in developing countries.

One of our ETFI experts, Brigitte Nitsch has been working on a research about interregional visitor management; a study of UNESCO Global Geoparks.

The popularity of visiting natural areas with valuable historical features and biodiversity has increased drastically amongst both tourists and locals. To monitor the visitor management and marketing activities, the UNESCO Global Geoparks the Hondsrug in Drenthe (NL) and Terra.vita (DE) joined in an Interreg project to start collecting information about their visitors. The study is focused on their interregional behavior, motivations, decision-making processes, demographics and satisfaction levels.

During 2021, ETFI has developed and conducted this study in the Netherlands and Germany with support of experts, students and volunteers of both Geoparks. The full study will be submitted at the end of this year, including recommendations for the future. If you want more information, send an email to [email protected]

It’s a wrap! After three intensive days last week, the first part of our training on sustainable tourism in Lake Toba has come to an end. Last week, the participants have followed lectures, seen inspiring examples, but mainly got to work themselves. The participants have different backgrounds and interests (heritage tourism, culture tourism, community-based tourism, agrotourism), but the focus was on discovering the different values (value proposition, unique selling points, etc.) of Lake Toba to enhance the area and develop it in a sustainable way.

On the last day, John Hummel was our guest and shared his expertise and experience around slow tourism and agrotourism. The second part of the training will take place this week, and the participants will continue to fill in the Business Model Canvas, led by Jos van der Sterren.

Onder leiding van onze ETFI expert Brigitte Nitsch start vandaag een meerdaagse training voor het duurzaam ontwikkelen van Lake Toba in Noord-Sumatra, Indonesië.

Tijdens de training zullen de deelnemers hun kennis verrijken met interessante colleges en inspirerende voorbeelden van onze experts, maar zullen ze ook vooral zelf aan het werk gaan. Stap voor stap komen de deelnemers tot een bedrijfsplan om het toerisme in Lake Toba te kunnen verbeteren en verduurzamen. De training is opgezet volgens het ‘train-the-trainer’ principe, wat de deelnemers in staat stelt om uiteindelijk zelf ook mensen te gaan opleiden met de tijdens de training opgedane kennis en vaardigheden. Hierdoor heeft de training ook een effect op de langere termijn.

Deze training is onderdeel van het Living Lab, waarin de CELTH Hogescholen samen met Nuffic Neso Indonesia nauw samenwerken om Lake Toba tot een duurzame toeristische bestemming te ontwikkelen. Waar het eerste deel van de training zich vooral richt op de waarden van het gebied, zal het tweede deel een meer bedrijfskundige aanpak kennen. Dit onderdeel zal worden verzorgd door onze collega’s van de Breda University of Applied Sciences (BUas).
