Marble Harpmaster test August 2026

The Marble Harpmaster is a dedicated Harmonica amp for bigger stages. Output power is 60 Watts solid state and 45 Watts tube rectified. The pre amp boosts the Anti Feedback Control and Clipper Switch, two features that reduce feedback at high volume settings and create a great drive and vintage tone. This Harpmaster is in 4x10 configuration with 2x10 Jensen P10R and 2x10 Jensen Blackbird Alnico loudspeaker configration. The classic Jensen P10R has that particular harmonica sound with nice detailed top end, the Jensen Blackbird adds a fat tone with great bottom end.

BACK TO MY ROOTS

Sometimes I just need to go back to the basics of harmonica playing.

So, no big amplifier, no vintage microphone, no pedalboard and effects.

Just playing acoustically, no hand techniques and cupping. No big tone, just a touch of reverb and slapback delay. Created an old school sound with some equalization and that's it. While playing, the focus was on a simple lick to start with, and that laid the foundation for rhythmic playing in 1 take, supplemented with simple licks.

Backporch Blues ( Mark en Laura van Mourik) hadden mij uitgenodigd om met hen en Nils Groener een optreden te verzorgen in café "Bij Veldhuis"in Apeldoorn.
Een van de nummers, die we gespeeld hebben, was Ain't no sunshine.
Niet echt toepasselijk want deze zondag was het bloedheet !!
Ondanks dat hebben we 3 sets gespeeld en een erg leuke middag gehad.

One of the songs we played was Ain't no sunshine.
Not really appropriate because it was scorching hot this Sunday!!
Despite that, we played 3 sets and had a very nice afternoon.

Eindelijk gevonden!

Ik was al lang ontevreden met het geluid als mijn bluesharp versterker op een PA systeem versterkt moest worden.
Het klonk altijd anders dan wat mijn geluid op het podium was.

Ik wist dat ik een ribbon microfoon moest gebruiken maar de goede modellen zijn erg duur.

Bij toeval vond ik een ribbon microfoon van Bumblebee voor een hele mooie prijs.
Deze Bumblebee microfoons kun je kopen als bouwpakket maar ze zijn ook als complete microfoon te bestellen.

Ik heb de Bumblebee RM-5 compleet besteld want solderen is niet mijn passie !
Deze heb ik besteld met de 0.004 mm ribbon omdat deze meer geschikt zijn voor het doorversterken van een gitaar en dus ook voor een bluesharp versterker.

In deze video zie je mijn blauwe Marble Harpwood versterker en daar staan 2 microfoons voor. Linksboven is een Sennheiser E906 en rechtsonder de BumbleBee.
De sound engineer had al na een halve minuut gehoord dat de ribbon veel beter functioneerde. Minder de typische harsh klank zoals de meest gebruikte microfoons.
Hij vertelde achteraf dat het voor hem veel makkelijker was om mijn sound in de band sound in te passen. Duidelijker, vollere klank, precies wat ik gehoopt had.

Finally found!

I had long been dissatisfied with the sound when my blues harp amplifier had to be amplified on a PA system.
It always sounded different from what my sound was on stage.

I knew I had to use a ribbon microphone but the good models are very expensive.
By chance I found a ribbon microphone from Bumblebee for a very nice price.
You can buy these Bumblebee microphones as a kit, but they can also be ordered as a complete microphone.

I ordered the complete Bumblebee RM-5 because soldering is not my passion!
I ordered this with the 0.004 mm ribbon because they are more suitable for amplifying a guitar and therefore also for a blues harp amplifier.

In this video you see my blue Marble Harpwood amplifier and there are 2 microphones in front of it. Top left is a Sennheiser E906 and bottom right is the BumbleBee.
After half a minute, the sound engineer had heard that the ribbon was functioning much better. Less the typical harsh sound like the most commonly used microphones.
He said afterwards that it was much easier for him to fit my sound into the band's sound. Clearer, fuller sound, exactly what I had hoped for.
