Physiotutors HQ in Velserbroek

Patients are more than their painful shoulder, knee, neck, or back.

The painful area may be where symptoms are felt—but it is not always where the full story begins.

In this episode, Bahram Jam discusses why clinicians need to look beyond the body part and understand the person experiencing the pain: their beliefs, fears, history, context, and what the pain may be trying to protect them from.

A powerful reminder that in persistent pain, the structure is often only one piece of a much bigger picture.

Long-term change rarely comes from punishment.

Whether it is food, exercise, or rehab, the mindset behind the behavior matters.

In this episode, Bahram Jam explores why patients may struggle when healthy choices feel like something they “have to do”—and why movement becomes more sustainable when it comes from self-respect, confidence, and a belief that the body is worth caring for.

A different perspective on chronic pain, behavior change, and helping patients build a healthier relationship with their body.

In chronic pain rehab, exercise is often prescribed with the message: “Do this to fix your pain.”

But what if that framing keeps patients focused on what is wrong?

In this episode, Bahram Jam explains why exercise may be more helpful when it is connected to a meaningful goal—picking up a grandchild, sitting on the floor, playing with the dog, or returning to the activities that make life feel normal again.

A practical reminder for clinicians: in persistent pain, movement is not just about correcting the body. It is about helping people regain trust, confidence, and function.

Is there a standardized exercise protocol for athletes with long-standing groin pain?

This scoping review suggests the answer is not so straightforward. Exercise therapy remains a cornerstone of rehabilitation, but incomplete reporting makes it difficult to determine which loads, dosages, progressions, or exercise types are most effective.

So, should clinicians keep searching for the “best” exercise—or focus on building a clear, individualized rationale?

TMJ pain is often approached as a mechanical problem: fix the bite, adjust the occlusion, correct the alignment.

But what if the story is more complex than that?

In this episode, Bahram Jam challenges common assumptions around TMJ pain and explores why decades of structural approaches have not always delivered the outcomes patients hope for.

A thought-provoking conversation on pain science, dental beliefs, and reframing TMJ beyond purely mechanical explanations.

Exercise is often prescribed as a way to “fix” pain.

But what if that message sometimes reinforces the idea that the body is broken?

In this episode, Bahram Jam challenges how clinicians frame exercise in chronic low back pain. Instead of using movement to correct a structural fault, he argues for using it to help patients return to the functions and activities that matter to them.

A thought-provoking discussion on chronic pain, reassurance, patient education, and exercise with purpose.
