Touching cloudbase ☁️

For the first time flying up to cloudbase, around 2km altitude, about 800m above take-off. Heading straight into the thermal after take-off, circling and gradually gaining height.

And then, at times, not so gradually.
Lift kicking in, rising faster than expected.
The air becoming a bit more alive, small movements, patches of turbulence passing through.

What stood out most wasn’t so much the height, but what was happening internally.

Physically it’s not overly demanding, but mentally there’s more going on. Breathing picks up, awareness sharpens.

So I shifted attention.

Breathing in.
Breathing out.

Staying with my breath and focusing on the exhale while the wing keeps climbing.

It’s an interesting balance allowing the system to settle while moving through changing air and turbulence.

A quiet kind of exploration.
Enjoying it, while at the same time being mirrored by it.

Up to the next one!

Three times the charm ❄️

For the third time, I joined the Ice Swim Challenge.
“Is it cold?” people ask.
Yes… sure ;-)

So why do it?

It’s a bit of fun.
A bit of exciting.
And a bit of anxiety

But above all — it’s an adventure.

Every time I step into the water, I have no idea how my body will respond. Sure, there’s preparation and familiarity… but still, every swim is different. And that’s what makes it such an interesting exploration.

What makes it even better is sharing the experience. Participating together with friends, encouraging each other, laughing (and slightly suffering 😅) before and after — that shared energy adds so much to the challenge.

Will there be a fourth round?
For sure.

Maybe next time not only in the relay, but also an individual distance. Something I’m definitely curious to explore.

Either way, it’s inspiring to see so many different people come together in such a diverse and unique event.

Cold water, warm connections

Human Surrender

Event:
HUMAN SURRENDER | being with discomfort and unease

An experimental masterclass

As humans we try to control our lives in order to prevent ourselves from being in pain or try to remain in pain, discomfort and unease. If discomfort arises, we don’t listen to its message, but we try to get rid of it as soon as possible. If we have a headache, we take an aspirin. If we are afraid or depressed, we seek distraction. If we feel restless or stressed, we work even harder.

Why do we bother so much about uneasiness? Why do we fight or flight, it instead of finding comfort in the discomfort? It’s like a pushing a ball under water the harder you push, the higher the ball will push towards the surface. If you let it rest it will float…

Outcome

You will learn how to be with challenges in life which will contribute to building resilience and the ability for self management. You will find deep confidence in letting go of control; being more at ease with life whatever happens. Your life will express more fullness and freedom.

By accepting your present feelings you create space for the intrinsic message to reveal itself. Only then it’s possible to take care of the underlying need

You will learn how to coach your clients in a more effective manner. Most of the time your clients are straining themselves to get rid of the unpleasant situation they are in. Trying to change might become a new stressor. As a professional you can guide your clients towards relaxing and embracing their current situation, creating an environment in which deeper psychological patterning can be explored and long lasting behavioral change can take place.

Guardian of light…

There’s only light.

Remove the light and only darkness remains.

You can only simply experience darkness by reducing the light.

In essence there’s only light.

A beautiful sentence by on a day of storm where I’ve experienced my own internal storm. A storm that has been triggered by Mother Nature. I’m feeling grateful, grounded and very humble at the same time. Moving away from this internal storm was supposed to be the easiest way. But I couldn’t close the door, so I let the storm come in and rattle my cage. Experiencing the strength, the howling, the rawness, the moment, the emotions and sensations. Everything has been touched through out the day, when I accepted to invite the storm that stood on my doorstep. Sharing, with others, throughout the day helped me to stay connected with myself. For that I’m grateful 🙏🏽

The Act…

I’ve wrote this poem a couple of years ago. During that time I was in a deep process. Which often had led to frustrations, resistance and unmet desires. It became a mere reflection of what used to be, a desire of what I searched for. The more I’ve reread it the more it fell into place. As the desire has shifted to reality. Moving out of this book of what I supposed to do towards what I would like to do. Meaning being on an adventure of not knowing.

Often it has left me with frustrations towards my surroundings of missing this flight. Why couldn’t everyone be part of it? Well because simple not everyone is willing to or is even aware. I can’t change nobody but you can only be shown the door. Everyone has it’s own process but it took some time to comprehend this understanding. It isn’t about others, it was about me.

All of these places have left to the point where I’m today. If it wouldn’t be for these experiences, frustrations and desires. I would be in a total different place and space. Experiences or events aren’t something by itself but are interconnected with each other. They have influence on the present. Like all of my previous choices.

Were it will end, I don’t know and I don’t want to know. The adventure of exploring is so fulfilling that I couldn’t wish for more.

Teaching

After starting teaching, 9 years ago, I would have never thought it would become such a core principle. I can easily recall my first experiences in which I was quite nervous, for all the unknown that appeared. Moulding all kinds of stories to prepare myself for lecturing and all the unexpectedness. The more I went through the process, the more free and opened I’ve felt. The content would move to the background and instead I could focus more on the interaction.

While it appears I moved away from the content, I was just able to redirect my attention to different aspects like social interaction. That made way to connect with myself, the group and the individual. As I noticed I was just as much part of the group as anybody else. Therefore going through the process of bonding and understanding each other helped in the long term of learning. If one doesn’t feel safe, how can one actually learn?

The more I noticed the importance, the more the pieces fell in place. Much later I understood why social interaction and feelings of safety are such an important aspect of teaching. The first thing we do is check wether or not the environment is safe. If one isn’t, defence mechanisms start to kick in and we’ll try to mobilise. That might not turn into actual movement but can also lead to thoughts, feelings, emotions and sensations of mobilisation. All of this is part of the which has helped me tremendous in connecting.

While the form has changed in the past two years, from fully physical classes to fully digital to a hybride form. The main principle of connecting, feeling safe and recognition remains the same. Although challenging through a screen where there is less connection between people. Although we’re faced with this roller-coasting form, being aware of the basic needs can be helpful to reach out and understand one and another.

In the end schools are still a place where we can come together, bond, connect, share, learn from each other, fall, make mistakes and grow as an individual and as a community. Something we need to cherish.

Another year rolls by

2021 is coming to an end and for myself I always like to reflect on the past year. Although it’s difficult to recap everything, I do like to share some elements of last year in which I’ve felt much gratitude and connection.

➡️ Teaching 👨‍🏫
Although I’m almost teaching for a decade, this year I’ve felt a deeper calling towards teaching. Not only on an educational level but also on a personal level. Because I think the two can’t be separated. To work within groups and inspire each other is so valuable.

➡️ Go into nature 🍂
The more I’ve been surrounded by Mother Nature the more I’ve felt grounded, at ease, relaxed and open towards what life has in store for me. Finding the deeper connection and giving back to the earth have really helped me to show my place.

➡️ Share a hug 🤗
It sounds easy but to really receive and give a hug, unconditionally isn’t. But it’s a great way to connect with others, relax and letting go. No words are needed if you share a real hug. And try a koala hug 🐨🍀, that’s one my favourites. If only a hug isn’t enough, just go for cuddle puddles.

➡️ Make music 🎶
I’ve never played an instrument prior to 2021. This year I’ve built two drums 🪘 , bought a hand pan, a shrutti box and a rattle. Every time I bring a drum or hand pan into a workshop, people experience the magic of it. The music by itself can create a deeper layer of connection. You don’t need to be a professional to enjoy making music.

➡️Spend time with friends and family
It sounds logic but to really share intimate moments isn’t always obvious. To share the troubles, the struggles, all the emotions than come and go. We often stay stuck in the story and therefore removing ourselves from the real experiences in the moment. Spending time in this space, with others, is such a gift. It’s like flower 🌺 opening up towards the sky.

➡️ Find your tribe
Just surround yourself with people that can give, share and take unconditionally. Without wanting anything in return, to act through love and not through grasping. But I’ve found my tribe last year with deep and profound connections. For that I’m very grateful!

Be well for 2022!

Looking up..

I often see people (including myself) looking upwards or towards the horizon. Seeking something that might show up in the near future to give some security. Security to help myself of what’s coming and predict the outcome. This cognitive activity only takes place in the head. Because thoughts are like sugar for the mind. Craving for more and more. But what actually is certain in life? I guess the only certainty is the uncertainty life has in stored. So why not take a gamble and take a step into this uncertainty and follow the heart?

The last couple of weeks (ever since I went through the level 3 Breathwork Masterclass) I’ve came much more in touch with my heart. Not thinking about the future because the need has been right in front of my nose. Resulting in being more in the present. During these weeks I’ve felt so much openness and connection with myself and my surroundings. Leading to connecting with others on a much more profound level. Taking the time to listen, share, give, take, receive and connect. But most important I’ve felt that everything has been unconditionally. Not being worried of what people might think, believe or the need for something in return. Especially this latter one, results in a dance of pulling and pushing between people…

Ever since I’ve felt this openness I’ve received so much loving full messages, connections and sharings that I’ve feel a deep, deep feeling of gratitude. Receiving so much kindness has left me with a filled and warm heart. Something that’s has left me with being so much closer towards myself. Showing up with what’s actually present isn’t simple. Because it means living in uncertainty and insecurity. But it is a road I’m willing to take. I would be foolish to say it doesn’t scare me because it does. It’s scares the s**t out of me. Even writing this post. But while I’ll be out there, I’ll gather all the mistakes I can so I can and grow, grow and grow…..

Am I ready to touch down? Not yet. At the moment I feel like open flower or walking around butt naked for that matter. I haven’t felt like for a long, long time. Although it’s very vulnerable I still want to remain in this space of surrendering to whatever arises. And last week have contributed to this state.

It has been one hell of spacious ride during the level 3 Breath work Masterclass. Flying around on has been a great, intensive, precious, profound, grounded, self-reflecting experience. In which I have been able to let myself blossom to my full potential. Something I’ve found difficult over the years to really show myself. Always being concerned towards others if I wouldn’t be too much. But with the intention of letting go, I’ve never felt so strong and deeply connected. Not only from within but also with my the tribe.

Breaking through patters that don’t serve me anymore is such a delightful experience. Which has has led to more openness in the broadest sense. Being able to share moment of breathing, singing, drumming, sharing, (koala) hugging, humming, laughing, holding space, cuddle puddles, crying and so on has given me the foundation to carry all of these breakthroughs. For each member of the tribe I could write a testimonial on how their presence has supported me. For that I’m very grateful. A connection between all of us has been made on much deeper and profound layer. Something the mind can barely comprehend.

Thank you tribe for showing your pure self. I’ve enjoyed each every moment of it. Although some of them were rough, edgy, dark and difficult all of has a form of beauty. And it was an amazing experience to be part of it, what a present!

Special thanks towards the mindlift crew, for making all of this happen!
