This month, we welcomed our students with the Ubstart period, which included First-Years Camp, Running Dinner, a Lecture, Bouldering, a Mix & Match party and much more. We also held our TGMA, saying goodbye to the lovely Board Van der Meulen and welcoming Board Westerhof. We’re looking forward to what October will bring!

Dear Ubbo Emmians,

We would like you to join us for the Ubbo Beerpong Tourney on October 7th! We will gather at Gelkinge 9 for an amazing evening full of competitiveness and of course some lovely beers. The tournament starts at 20:00 and will only cost you €1,- to participate!

It is important that you sign up in duos. So make sure to sign up on the website first and then email us your team (including teamname!) at [email protected]. If you can’t find a duo, don’t worry, we will pair you up with someone on the evening itself. There’s also a little twist: make sure that you dress alike as a duo! Be it wearing the same colour, a matching outfit or dressing up as an iconic duo, that’s up to your own taste.

So start practising and we hope you see you all on October 7th!

StuCo is excited to invite you to essay training (not only) for beginners! The workshop is primarily meant for second-year students, but of course, everybody is welcome. During the training, we will cover the basics of writing a proper essay, along with some handy tips and tricks. So, whether you are a first-year confused about utilising Smartcat, designing a research question, structuring an essay or using Turabian, or whether you are a third-year looking for a fresh perspective on your writing, you will hopefully find our workshop useful. The event will be held on October 2, from 15:00 to 17:00. It will be given only in English, and the location will be announced later. Dear first-year Ubbo Emmians,

Our very first Social Drink of the year is just around the corner! We’re starting the evening with a cozy dinner together at Eetcafé Ugly Duck at 19:00.

Ugly Duck has prepared a special Dagobert Duck menu for us. Every dish is only €13,50 and comes with fries, sauce, salad, and warm vegetables (unless stated otherwise).

The options are:

- Chicken schnitzel (gluten-free available) with Stroganoff sauce

- Pork tenderloin (gluten-free available) with creamy mushroom & oyster mushroom sauce

- Pork tenderloin skewer with satay sauce, prawn crackers, and fried onions

- Chicken skewer with satay sauce, prawn crackers, and fried onions

- Salmon fillet (gluten-free available) with oyster sauce and sesame

- Vegetable tagine with rice and salad (ginger, garlic, onion, carrot, radish, potato, tomato, chickpeas, pomegranate seeds & almonds)

When you sign up via the website, you can select one of these six dishes. Please don’t forget to mention any allergies in the remarks section. The deadline for signing up is September 29th at 12:00.

Meals will be paid via direct debit, while drinks can be settled at the venue. We can’t wait to see you there and celebrate the start of the year together!

September is almost around the corner, and this means the return of Zwemfest. As always, organised by student associations of the University of Groningen: VIP (Psychology), GHD Ubbo Emmius (History), GLV Idun (Life Science & Technology) & Ibn Battuta (Spatial Science).
