Cavarem speakers series #3:
Stay tuned for more updates on lecturers from our educational programme! A full update of our programme will be published soon!

This year, one of our key speakers is Dr. Luiz Felipe Pinho Moreira, MD PhD. He is currently an Associate Professor of cardiothoracic surgery at the University of São Paulo, Brazil and a Director of the surgical laboratory of cardiovascular research (Instituto do Coração, InCor) at the FMUSP clinical hospital. He will be flying all the way from Brazil and stay with us during the week of the summer school!

In his research department, he focuses on interventions in the ventricular remodeling process (e.g. partial left ventriculectomy) and mechanisms for prevention of ischemia and reperfusion injuries in the aortic surgical approach. Furthermore, as a cardiac surgeon, he also researches methods of preservation of grafts used in cardiothoracic transplantation and the use of tissue engineering to develop grafts and prostheses.

Are you interested in cardiovascular medicine or cardiothoracic surgery and would you like to attend Dr. Luiz Felipe’s lectures? Then apply now for our summer school!

Cavarem speakers series #2:

Stay tuned for more updates on lecturers from our educational programme!

This year again we will again have Dr. Patrick van Rijn, from the W.J. Kolff Institute for Biomedical Engineering and Materials Science / University Medical Center Groningen (UMCG)/RUG as a speaker for the CAVAREM summer school. He is also part of our organizing team of 8 members and has designed the educational programme for our summer school together with Prof. Dr. Marco C. Harmsen.

Although being trained as a chemist, building small molecules, he likes to work on the interface between cell biology and biomedical science. His group predominantly investigates material-cell interactions using novel material approaches and bionanotechnology which involves a wide range of scientific disciplines. Therefore his group consists of chemists, cell biologists, microbiologists, material scientists and medical oriented researchers. He strongly believes that different insights of disciplines enables one to view problems from different angles and this vital for any creative process, including research. Therefore, he encourages interdisciplinary collaboration as will occur in the Cavarem summer school.
