We have 6 PhD positions available to help us search for an electron EDM.

Vacatures bij de RUG We use cold molecules to probe fundamental physics - specifically the electron’s electric dipole moment (EDM). We are looking for motivated PhD students with a strong interest the relevant fields of physics. The experiment is set up at the Van Swinderen Institute (VSI) at the University of Groning...

VSI’s Steven Hoekstra receives a prestigious VICI award!

Congratulations to Jan-Willem Romeijn, Steven Hoekstra and Karina Caputi for receiving three Vici grants each worth 1.5 million euros! 🎉

The Dutch Research Council (NWO) has awarded the Vici grants to three researchers of our university. They can use this money to develop an innovative line of research and set up their own research group for a period of five years.

Prof. Romeijn will use the Vici grant to investigate the use of data science methods by using insights from the philosophy of science. The research of Prof. Hoekstra will test the Standard Model of particle physics, by performing a precision measurement on a cloud of molecules, captured and held by electric fields. The project of Prof. Caputi will investigate the first steps of galaxy evolution as it has never been possible before, with the largest space telescope ever built: the James Webb Space Telescope.
