The Foundation of Gouda Clay-Pipe Making is listed on the National Inventory of Intangible Cultural Heritage of the Netherlands, initiated by the UNESCO. On the 2nd of December 2013 did Patrick Vermeulen as Gouda Clay-Pipe Maker Craftsman get his foundation recognised as Intangible Cultural Heritage. With the signature on the document is his foundation now officially listed

in the Inventory of Intangible Cultural Heritage of the Netherlands. With that achiefment did it become the first Craft from the province of South-Holland with an International ranking. Vermeulen, he specifically stipulated that he accepts it on behalf on the just created foundation de Goudse Pijp / "the Gouda Clay-Pipe". With this recognition and a lot of other activities did mr. Vermeulen and the Foundation revice a centuries-old tradition. An opportunity grepped with both hands by mr. Vermeulen and the foundation, to develop interesting new ideas and initiatives. For instance, they developed a walking tour along pipe making highlights in Gouda and currently they are developing a new version of an historical ice-skate tour from the city of Rotterdam to the center of Gouda. The main difference, now it can be done on a bicycle or on roller-blade, or even walking. A one-way trip is about 32 Km. ( 19mi 1556yd ). For approximately 95% will this route be right next to the water on which the original ice-skating tour took place. These activities are also expressly provided for by the conditions attached to the granting of recognition. The craft had to be a living tradition, which is passed on for generations. Plans had to be developed, for instance one to map the tradition and another on how to pass on the craft to future generations, and to keep the craft viable. These plans will be reviewed every two years.
