Meet one of the speakers of our next EHV Innovation Café: ‘Sexy Biomaterials, Shared Consequences’. She is a biodesigner and researcher working at the intersection of design, biology and culture. With a background in product design and cultural studies, Sam explores living and biobased materials such as algae, fungi, yeasts and bacteria.

At the Amsterdam University of Applied Sciences, Sam works on projects that rethink how materials are grown, cultivated and understood, and coordinates the Biomaterials Studio — a hands-on research environment where designers, students and researchers experiment with living materials.

Don’t miss Sam, Beatriz Sandini and Alessia Pasquini at the next EHV Innovation Café!

Meet two of the speakers of our next EHV Innovation Café: ‘Sexy Biomaterials, Shared Consequences’ ( + ) an experimental design and research project that redefines the visual and sensory language of sustainable materials.

Through iridescent, glossy and brightly coloured biopolymers, they prove that sustainability does not have to look rough or understated.

By merging biobased chemistry, traditional craftsmanship and immersive storytelling, Materia Futura creates fashionable materials that are sensory, playful and emotionally engaging — while deeply rooted in ecological awareness.

Sexy biomaterials aren’t just aesthetic, they’re a responsibility. At the next EHV Innovation Café, we explore what happens when sexy biomaterials meet shared consequences, featuring:

Beatriz Sandini & Alessia Pasquini (Materia Futura) — on designing biomaterials that are sensorial, seductive and deeply connected to craft and living systems.

Sam Edens (Amsterdam University of Applied Sciences) — on working with biomaterials as living relationships rather than technical solutions.

Materia Futura is currently part of the exhibition Basic Instinct: Making–With at Kazerne.

Meet one of the speakers of our next Innovation Cafe, ‘Who Is Farming Whom?’ Paul van Zoggel is a researcher and programme manager in precision agriculture at Wageningen University & Research. He focuses on projects that help farmers use data, robotics, AI and digital platforms to optimise farming practices in sustainable and practical ways.Paul operates at the intersection of science and practice, working closely with farmers, companies and public authorities at experimental sites such as testing grounds and future farms.

In addition to his work at WUR, Paul is affiliated as a researcher with Eindhoven University of Technology (TU/e), strengthening the connection between agricultural innovation, engineering and design-driven research. He also works on regional agtech innovation in Brabant, collaborating with networks such as VDBorne Campus.
A key interest in his work is hybrid intelligence: combining human expertise with advanced AI and robotics so people and machines can collaborate more naturally and effectively.

Alongside his work at WUR, Paul is actively involved in regional agtech innovation in Brabant, bridging research, real-world application and emerging design-driven approaches.

Don’t miss Paul and Floris Schoonderbeek at the next EHV Innovation Café, where humans and non-human collaborators explore how to grow together.

Meet one of the speakers of our next Innovation Cafe, ‘Who Is Farming Whom?’ is a designer and inventor known for creating practical, scalable innovations that bridge design, technology and ecology. He is the initiator of Circlefarming, a regenerative agricultural method in which a rotating arm, the so-called Compass, carries people, existing tools and new technology. By combining humane labour, smart tools and digital intelligence, this system restores soil, increases biodiversity and reconnects people to the landscapes that feed them.In 2007, he founded the design label Weltevree, which has since grown into an internationally recognised brand known for durable, participatory products that encourage people to actively engage with their environment. Alongside his design practice, Floris is creative director for investing developer and space curator Schipper Bosch, where he develops long-term concepts for places that connect landscape, use and community.
His work has received multiple awards and nominations, including the Dutchtub (Rotterdam Design Prize nomination), Groundfridge (Dutch Design Award nomination), and several innovation awards for energy and mobility concepts. Across products, places and farming systems, his work is characterised by accessibility, durability and participation.

Is this really the best we can do? Jean-Marc Moulin leads Hydro’s sustainability strategy and challenges suppliers, designers, and clients to rethink raw materials.

During Dutch Design Week at Kazerne Hydro presents the R100 project. A project that turns 100% post-consumer aluminum into locally made objects, cutting CO₂ by 90% and proving there’s always a better way.

Don’t miss Jean-Marc and Antonia Vincenza Schreiber this Thursday at EHV Innovation Café, where curiosity meets action.
