Transparency.

This becomes incremental when it comes to laying the foundations of a strong feedback culture within an organisation.

For Alix Jacobson, former VP of HR EMEA at Netflix, this was practiced through company information being visible and fully available to employees in the organisation.

She said:

“Netflix believed that providing employees with complete access to company information enabled a strong level of trust, which empowered better and bigger decisions to be made. It also meant that there was high accountability when things didn’t go to plan.”

Mistakes are totally normal.

Everyone’s made them – yet in the workplace, many employees feel afraid!

HR and L&D leaders have a responsibility to embrace mistakes as part of the wider feedback culture. That way, employees can feel encouraged to think big and take risks.

‘This meeting could have been an email.’

At some point or another – we've all had this thought cross our mind.

The reality is – many organisations have reached the point of meeting overload – whereby too many meetings have had a reverse impact on productivity.

Harvard Business Review surveyed 182 senior managers, across a wide range of industries, and found that 71% said meetings were inefficient 😅

Now – this isn’t to say that meetings don’t have a place all together.

We totally get that in this world where remote and hybrid work models have become the norm, it’s super important to connect with your colleagues 🤝

But there’s a balancing act – meetings also need to have the desirable outcome!
And in our lesson, you can achieve just that 🎯

Happy Halloween! 🎃

As we embrace the season, let’s unmask a common workplace fear: imposter syndrome.

People may experience imposter syndrome differently, but it generally refers to that nagging feeling that we’re not good enough.

Did you know that studies show that 70-80% of people experience feelings of imposter syndrome at some point in their lives?

And it’s often tied to a fear of failure and downplaying our achievements, like a ghost haunting our confidence 👻

On our Moving Forward podcast, guest Peter Bosz - Head Coach at PSV - shared how he encourages his players to embrace making mistakes:

"In football, you have to show courage and not be afraid to make a mistake, not be afraid to lose the ball.” ⚽

Adopting a growth mindset to mistakes like Peter has can help kick imposter syndrome to the curb.

When individuals stop fearing failure, they can start seeing challenges as new adventures and can truly celebrate their wins!

If you’re grappling with these fears, check out a sneak peek of our lesson on Dealing with Imposter Syndrome in the clip below.

We’d love for you to share your experiences below - what workplace fears have you faced, and how did you conquer them? 👇

This Halloween let’s celebrate the bravery to confront our workplace fears!

Learning can be highly impactful in a short space of time...

Providing that the content is themed or has a targeted focus, around a specific skill 🎯

This is where the inspiration for our lessons came from.

Each lesson consists of ️five different learning activities, designed to enable an employee to learn a new skill (or refresh their memory on an existing one) within the hour.

During the experience, learners will be inspired, informed, and instructed to put theory into practice.

The relevance of the topics means that employees can apply the learning objectives to their unique, personal situations within the workplace.

And in case you’re interested, we’ve recently released 6 new lessons:

1️⃣ Sharpen your negotiation skills
2️⃣ Stop the meeting madness
3️⃣ Make it click
4️⃣ Make your time matter
5️⃣ Dealing with imposter syndrome
6️⃣ Rethinking your opinion

Find out more in the clip below, or via the article in the comments 👇

And be sure to let us know in the comments how you’re ensuring high impact with learning, in short periods of time.

Personal development doesn’t happen overnight.

Let’s say you’re looking to work on improving your communication. It’s important to start out slow - and set goals for yourself, step by step, in a way that feels both manageable and achievable 🎯

For example - it could be something as simple as…

✅ The next time I am in the office, I’ll aim to network with 3 new people.

✅ I’ll offer to present in the next meeting.

Remember - putting in the work is part of the process! That’s when you truly are able to positively impact your life 💫

Now, if you want to see more of this in action, you’ll hear from Eddie Brocklesby - AKA Irongran.

She took on challenge after challenge against all odds, pushing herself to the limit to achieve peak levels of physical and mental health! 💪

The concept of learning and development can seem quite a distant one for employees.

It’s often down to the lack of ‘buzz’ or excitement around learning. And as a result, HR and L&D are often perceived as just another department 🤷

However, as Polly Ivanova - at Puma, rightly pointed out in the latest episode of Moving Forward:

“We quickly realised that HR should be more than just a function. We wanted to be the attractive and easy to reach service provider.”

She also added how HR at Puma became its own brand - whereby everyone in the organisation knows this internal team and how we can help, and bring learning closer and more within reach 🤝
