๐ŸŽ“ Meet the first-ever Beethoven cohort! This year, the very first Master students recruited through the Beethoven Program officially started at TU/e ๐Ÿ™Œ

And we really need them ๐Ÿ’ช Talent like this is essential to meet the huge demand in sectors like semiconductors, which is exactly why the Dutch government launched the Beethoven Project, with our university playing a key role.

The goal? 1,380 extra semicon graduates by 2030. And this is just the beginning!

๐Ÿ—ฃ๏ธ Margo Strijbosch (Beethoven Program Manager) puts it best: "We're excited that more and more international students are choosing Eindhoven and Brainport. With Beethoven, we're strengthening our position as a leading university, firmly rooted in the Brainport ecosystem. A place where students have an inspiring study experience and can easily find a job in the semiconductor sector."

๐Ÿ›๏ธ Last weekend was Open Monumentendag on our campus!

More than 300 visitors joined us this weekend to explore the architecture and history of the monuments on our campus.

The day opened with a beautiful speech by Patrick Groothuis on the theme of connection, both the literal connection of our campus footbridges and the way architecture connects a campus to its city. Dorine Peters-van Dommelen, Director of Campus & Facilities of our university, was also there to welcome our guests.

Inside the Zwarte Doos, visitors could watch a short film; many chose to do so before heading out on the guided tour.

Due to the rain, the tour took a slightly adjusted (and shorter) route, leading visitors through Atlas and across the bridge to the Auditorium and other campus icons, such as the floor relief by Ad Dekkers.

A huge thank you to all our volunteers, and to Architectuurcentrum Eindhoven, Open Monumentendag, and Gemeente Eindhoven for organizing this day together with us. ๐Ÿ™Œ

๐ŸŽ“ TU/e Best Teacher Awards 2026

This year, six outstanding teachers have been nominated for these honors. Members of our Student Advisory Body evaluated all nominees based on passion, interaction, impact on student development, vision on higher education, innovation, critical thinking, and uniqueness. ๐ŸŒŸ

๐Ÿ’ฐ The winners take home an Educational Innovation Grant of โ‚ฌ15,000, while the other nominees each receive โ‚ฌ3,000, to be used for educational innovation or professional development. All nominees also receive a custom-designed statue, made especially for the Best Teacher Awards.

On 25 September, during MomenTUm, we'll find out who takes home the awards! ๐Ÿ†

EngD, PhD, and Postdoctoral researchers ๐Ÿ“ฃ
Our science pitching competition, Talking Science, is back!

In Talking Science, researchers have three minutes to pitch their own research.

Slides are not allowed, but props are.

Pitches must be given in English, and the aim is to craft a pitch that is understandable and engaging for a diverse audience.

We invite entries from researchers at all stages of their research journey โ€“ whether at the start of their research project or about to finish.

So, what are the key dates?

โ›”๏ธ Deadline for entries is Thursday, September 24th.

๐Ÿ‘Ÿ Pitch training for selected finalists on Thursday, October 29th

๐Ÿ”„ Feedback on pitches on Tuesday, November 24th.

๐ŸŽฌ Final takes place on Friday, December 11th.

๐Ÿš‘ From Eindhoven to Kenya. Our student team, Team Solar, took their solar-powered ambulance, Stella Juva, on a real-world mission, and the story went global.

During its first real-world tests in Kenya with Amref Health Africa, Stella Juva drove over 800 km and provided care to around 200 people in 2 days, powering an X-ray machine, an ultrasound, an AED, and a vaccine cooler along the way, all without relying on the grid or fuel.

The new academic year at TU/e has officially been opened! ๐ŸŽ“

During the opening, President Koen Janssen called for more room to educate and train engineers. Rector Silvia Lenaerts highlighted the need to reduce regulatory burden and strengthen Europeโ€™s technological autonomy.

Minister of Foreign Affairs Tom Berendsen pointed to Brainport as an example of what is possible when government, business and knowledge institutions work together.

Three TU/e researchers, one big opportunity for collaboration across Europe ๐ŸŽ‰

We're proud to announce the recipients of the 2026 EuroTech PhD Program grants. Three outstanding researchers have secured โ‚ฌ360,000 in funding over four years, enabling them to recruit a PhD candidate and deepen collaboration within the EuroTech Universities Alliance.

Meet the 2026 awardees:

๐Ÿ”น Lisa Maile (Electrical Engineering) โ€“ Communication-Optimized Inference in Large Language Models (COIL), with Prof. Dr. Georg Carle (Technical University of Munich, TUM)

๐Ÿ”น Fabian Eisenreich (Chemical Engineering & Chemistry) โ€“ PhotoLoop: Light-Driven Circular Bio-Based Polymers, with Prof. Dr. Anders E. Daugaard (Technical University of Denmark, DTU)

๐Ÿ”น Cian Scannell (Biomedical Engineering) โ€“ PRIMA-CMR: Physics-Informed Multimodal Generative AI for Personalized Contrast-Dose Reduction in Cardiac MRI, with Prof. Dr. Julia Schnabel (Technical University of Munich, TUM)

This year, all nine TU/e departments nominated a promising young researcher, resulting in nine excellent and highly diverse proposals, spanning trustworthy AI, sustainable chip design, circular materials, medical imaging, healthcare innovation, and fusion energy.

Only three projects could be selected, but the quality and ambition across the board speak volumes about the strength of TU/e's next generation of researchers and the value of the EuroTech partnership.

Solar Team Eindhoven has successfully completed the first practical tests of the solar ambulance Stella Juva in Kenya. โ˜€๏ธ ๐Ÿš‘

During the tests, the ambulance generated more solar energy than it consumed while providing medical care, proving that Stella Juva can operate fully energy independent.

That means Stella Juva can bring healthcare to remote communities without relying on the grid or fuel. Over 800 km through challenging terrain, the solar ambulance carried and powered essential medical equipment, including an X-ray machine, ultrasound, AED and vaccine cooler.

During tests with Amref Health Africa, Stella Juva demonstrated that it could provide care to around 200 people in 2 days while remaining fully energy independent.

This shows the potential of Stella Juva to make healthcare accessible in places where electricity and reliable infrastructure are scarce. With its own energy supply and medical equipment on board, healthcare workers can examine and diagnose patients on the spot.

With this successful test, Solar Team Eindhoven takes an important first step towards the future of sustainable healthcare, and hopes to inspire companies, social organisations and governments to tackle societal challenges with innovative solutions.

"As students, we have shown what is possible when technology and social impact come togetherโ€, says team manager Mathijs van Gerven. "We hope Stella Juva is not the end point, but rather the beginning of something much bigger."
