In-depth optics training keeps both students and the teacher sharp 04/11/2021

Deep at his core, Stefan Bäumer is an optics fanatic. He finds great passion in teaching because he likes to spread knowledge and, as he says, it keeps him on his toes. With undiminished enthusiasm, he has been providing the optics training “Modern optics for optical designers” at High Tech Institute for years. The training is tough – covering all aspects of optics – but also very valuable, participants tell him afterward. Read the interview and take a look at his training, starting 21 January 2022. https://bit.ly/3k61b0L

In-depth optics training keeps both students and the teacher sharp The fact that this optics training gives an overview of the entire field of optics makes it unique. Check out the course description.

Analog electronic design without the trial and horror - High Tech Institute 28/10/2021

Not unlike the arts, analog electronic design often hinges on intuition and sparks of inspiration. Anton Montagne has no qualms about that, but it’s no way to teach the subject. The self-described free spirit has made it his life work to offer a structured approach to analog electronic design. Montagne is involved in the training ‘Design of analog electronics – analog IC design‘ and several others. Read the full interview and take a look at the training, starting on 17 January. https://bit.ly/3pOwBMK

Creative thinking training - Review from participant Roger Amiot 27/10/2021

“𝐈𝐭’𝐬 𝐥𝐢𝐤𝐞 𝐚 𝐰𝐚𝐤𝐞-𝐮𝐩 𝐜𝐚𝐥𝐥, 𝐰𝐡𝐢𝐜𝐡 𝐢𝐬 𝐰𝐡𝐚𝐭 𝐭𝐡𝐢𝐬 𝐭𝐫𝐚𝐢𝐧𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐰𝐚𝐬 𝐟𝐨𝐫 𝐦𝐞.’’
Being creative isn’t always easy, especially working in high tech. This certainly holds true for Roger Amiot, a senior compliance engineer at Fluidwell. “Almost all my professional activities are closely tied to industry safety standards and just by nature, that means I’m very limited in opportunities to be creative.” Amiot wanted to see how he could push himself to get out of his comfort zone and participated in the training ‘Creative thinking’.

Handling security needs a healthy level of paranoia, and this is what this course provides: a strong emotional engagement by lots of hand on labs and stories from real life, all to substantially improve code hygiene. Mistakes, consequences and best practices are our blood, sweat and tears. All this is put in the context of C and C++, and extended by core programming issues, discussing security pitfalls of code written in these languages. So that you are prepared for the forces of the dark side.
You can either join this training by Balazs Kiss online or onsite in Eindhoven. Make sure to register in time: https://bit.ly/3bbPDEf

Software engineering for non-software engineers - High Tech Institute 25/10/2021

In the High Tech Industry a lot of projects have a multidisciplinary character. People from different disciplines have to work together closely to create optimal solutions, making 1 + 1 = 3.
Multidisciplinary teamwork means understanding “just enough” about what the other is doing, what kind of world he/she is living in. Especially for engineers designing real tangible stuff it is not easy to understand how the abstract software world looks like. But at the same time, the amount of software in complex systems is growing rapidly.
Take a look at the workshop ‘Software engineering for non-software engineers’ of Nico Meijerman, starting again on 23 November. https://bit.ly/3CreGiV

“If it works, managers think it’s pretty much done.” - High Tech Institute 19/10/2021

‘’𝐅𝐨𝐫 𝐦𝐚𝐧𝐲 𝐩𝐫𝐨𝐛𝐥𝐞𝐦𝐬, 𝐛𝐞𝐬𝐭 𝐩𝐫𝐚𝐜𝐭𝐢𝐜𝐞𝐬 𝐡𝐚𝐯𝐞 𝐛𝐞𝐞𝐧 𝐞𝐬𝐭𝐚𝐛𝐥𝐢𝐬𝐡𝐞𝐝 𝐨𝐯𝐞𝐫 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐲𝐞𝐚𝐫𝐬, 𝐢𝐧 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐟𝐨𝐫𝐦 𝐨𝐟 𝐩𝐚𝐭𝐭𝐞𝐫𝐧𝐬.’’
Modeling? We don’t do that. Design-patterns? Let’s skip it. Because we work agile. Onno van Roosmalen hears it regularly: Agile as an excuse, or even a pretext not to take software architecture seriously. As a trainer in the field of software development, he sees that there are many misunderstandings around the issues related to non-functional requirements: architecture, interfaces, performance, modeling, maintainability, you name it. Read the interview and take a look at his training ‘Design patterns and emergent architecture’, starting on 9 November. https://bit.ly/3DTMMfD

“If it works, managers think it’s pretty much done.” - High Tech Institute Software development often focuses entirely on filling in functionality; there is no time for issues such as maintainability, architecture and performance. While it doesn’t need to be difficult, says software trainer Onno van Roosmalen, but there are misunderstandings about Agile, architecture, UM...

Electronics cooling thermal design - High Tech Institute 08/10/2021

𝐄𝐥𝐞𝐜𝐭𝐫𝐨𝐧𝐢𝐜𝐬 𝐜𝐨𝐨𝐥𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐭𝐡𝐞𝐫𝐦𝐚𝐥 𝐝𝐞𝐬𝐢𝐠𝐧

High temperatures lower not only the lifetime but also the performance of many electronics. A clever, cost-effective thermal design translates into a commercial advantage. Read the interview with Wendy Luiten, trainer of the 'Electronics cooling thermal design' course: https://bit.ly/3oHH8sA starting on 3 November.

Electronics cooling thermal design - High Tech Institute RationaleIndustry moves towards ever increasing functionality, performance, miniaturization and less cost, resulting in higher heat densities and corresponding higher temperatures. Unfortunately, these have a negative impact on the performance, reliability and lifetime of electronic products, making...

There exists no accurate machine without good thermal management - High Tech Institute 29/09/2021

In most companies, thermal design and thermal management is still in its infancy’ says Theo Ruijl, CTO of MI-Partners and ‘Thermal effects in mechatronic systems’ trainer. Ruijl sees this fact as a huge deficiency. ‘You can’t build a precise machine if you neglect the thermal aspects.’ Read the interview: https://bit.ly/3zWwdNv and sign up for his training, starting on 14 December.

Working innovatively and enjoyably: the toolkit - High Tech Institute 16/09/2021

The high tech industry is exciting and dynamic. But if you get the feeling that you are always one step behind the facts, that your work is never finished and you still take your stress from work home, then it’s high time to change the way you work. Frank Rood, as an experienced system architect and technical manager, knows exactly which obstacles you can come up against and how to overcome them.
