๐Ÿ‘ The hard-working High Tech Campus sheep are back, doing what they do best: mowing the grass!

๐Ÿ’กFun fact: theyโ€™re Kempen Heath sheep, a hardy local breed that thrives on poor soil, keeps the heath healthy and holds back the purple moor grass.

They head off on holiday at the end of this week and return in August or September, so catch them before they go! ๐Ÿ‘‹ You'll find them in front of the NXP headquarters, across the lake.

Bernardo Kastrup, Founder and CEO of Euclyd, was one of the speakers at the AI Meet-up XL, hosted by the AI Innovation Center a few weeks ago.

Irene Rompa interviewed Bernardo on stage about why infrastructure investment is critical and what it takes for European AI companies to scale. They discussed Europe's strengths and why he's not convinced it needs new chip fabs to reach AI sovereignty by 2030. He believes Europe is closer than people think.

For Bernardo, AI sovereignty comes down to control of the silicon supply chain. He draws on his work building hardware for AI workloads at Euclyd to push back on the story that Europe is lagging in the AI race.

A new study by BRAVENTURE and the Gerard & Anton Foundation, based on data from Dealroom.co, shows Brainport's health and medtech sector has grown from a handful of startups into a vibrant ecosystem.

The IO+ article outlines the world-class health technologies being developed here, but the real question is whether these companies can turn individual successes into a durable, scalable engine.

๐Ÿ’กThree highlights from the article:
- There are 47 active medtech and healthtech startups and scaleups founded since 2010. Together they've raised โ‚ฌ611 million. The sector accounts for 32% of all post-2010 ventures, 33% of funding rounds and roughly a quarter of regional capital raised.

- Regional medtech and healthtech companies tackle the most urgent healthcare challenges. For example, ONWARD Medical has raised โ‚ฌ207 million to scale its spinal cord stimulation technology, and High Tech Campus-based Salvia BioElectronics has raised โ‚ฌ81 million for its ultra-thin implant for chronic migraine.

- Initiatives such as Eindhoven University of Technology's Eindhoven Institute for Transformative Health Technology (HEALTH), CUREON and the Smart BioMaterials Center (SBMC) add a foundational support system for medtech and healthtech companies, bridging the path from lab to certified, scaled product.

Lucis One (Building HTC 91) is increasingly becoming home to a growing community of innovative companies, with 5 new residents joining the building this year alone. ๐Ÿข

Today, weโ€™re taking a look inside one of the especially beautiful office spaces within our tallest building on campus: The office space of Zenya on the 5th and 6th floors. From the two thoughtfully designed floors, employees enjoy sweeping views across the Campus, complemented by the buildingโ€™s only private outdoor terrace. ๐ŸŒฟ

The workspace was designed with flexibility and growth in mind, with the aim of encouraging people to come to the office. Calm natural tones, smart climate control, and a clean, open layout create a welcoming environment for collaboration, helping employees feel connected as a team.

Nice side note: the design was created by Sofie Monten-de Stigter from Stuurman Ontwerpt, who is integrated into our Campus Management team and has helped shape many spaces across campus over the years.

Beyond the office itself, the building Lucis One offers direct access to the highway, ample parking facilities next to the building, a modern reception, shared rooftop garden and all the amenities of the Campus within walking distance, making it an ideal homebase, especially for growing software, AI or service companies.

๐Ÿ’กInterested in locating your company in a modern, high-end office environment like this? Get in touch with Elsbeth Smit or Jesper Beerens from our team. Theyโ€™ll be happy to show you around.

We work together with the following team of real estate agents: Robert van der Sommen and Frรฉdรฉrique Molenschot (CBRE Nederland), Romy Rooijakkers and Thijs Janssen (JLL), Dirk W. Verberne MRICS RM, Felix van Eeten, and Esteban van der Weijden (Verschuuren & Schreppers Bedrijfsmakelaars).

Great energy at the Conference Center High Tech Campus Eindhoven last week, as the AI Innovation Center welcomed over 300 attendees to explore one of todayโ€™s most pressing topics: European AI sovereignty. ๐Ÿ›ก๏ธ

Together with Bernardo Kastrup (Euclyd), Bram-Ernst Verhoef (Axelera AI), and Ralf Zoetekouw (Datacation), the conversation focused on what Europe needs to strengthen its position in AI, including compute infrastructure, semiconductors, AI applications, adoption, and ownership of critical technologies and data.

๐Ÿ’ก Here's what we learned:

As AI becomes increasingly embedded in critical infrastructure and industry, Europe remains heavily reliant on non-European chips, cloud platforms, and AI models, creating growing strategic and geopolitical risks.

The discussion challenged the assumption that Europe has already โ€œlostโ€ the hardware race. According to the speakers, Europe still has the engineering talent, industrial capabilities, and semiconductor expertise to compete, even without building entirely new fabs.

From AI accelerators to energy-efficient architectures, European companies are proving they can innovate across the full stack, not only at the application layer.

AI becomes most strategically valuable when it is connected to what is uniquely yours: proprietary data, domain expertise, operational processes, and industry knowledge.

The funding landscape remains scattered, adoption is often risk-averse, and regulation tends to arrive before scale. At the same time, the speakers emphasized that Europe does have the talent, knowledge base, and industrial ecosystem needed to compete globally.

Or, as Bernardo Kastrup summarized: โ€œEurope can be strategically and largely autonomous before 2030. It just requires will and courage.โ€

The conversation doesnโ€™t stop here. The AI Innovation Center will continue highlighting perspectives from the event in the coming weeks.
