Science Experiment - 12
Unit - Sound
We learnt to about how string instruments create sound by vibrations. On striking the cords or strings they make vibrations and these instruments are tuned to make a range of sounds. Also, how guitars have a sound box/resonator that amplifies sound.
Objective - how resonance increases sound intensity.
Materials needed -
1 empty box
3 elastic bands of different thickness
Sticks (we used pencils)
Method - Strike the elastic bands in open air and then put them on the tin box as shown in the video and strike. Add two sticks on each end (as bridge in a guitar), strike the bands again and note the sounds produced.
Explanation - Initially when the band is struck in open air the vibrating air gets lost producing very low sound. Then it produces a louder sound because the tin box act as an amplifier, the vibrating air inside the box strike with the wall of the box and creates higher sound intensity.

📚 Reading time
Highly recommended children’s book
The BFG by Roald Dahl
The BFG is an International bestseller, loved by children across the globe. The story revolves around the Big Friendly Giant and his friendship with a little girl named Sophie. We found it very funny when the BFG drank frobscottle. He ate snozzcumbers from the giant’s land as he didn’t hunt for human beans like the other giants.
Do grab a copy for yourself to discover how the BFG and Sophie with the help of the Queen catches the vicious giants.
Little S must have read it numerous times by now and everytime he starts, he reads till the end at one go. He loved the giantese language in the book like fleshlumpeater, trogglehumper, bloodbottler and many more.
Enjoy Reading!

Science Experiment- 11
Unit - Sound
A simple experiment to show that sound creates vibrations. Little S read about this in his Science book and had several questions about how the grains were moving without even touching. A little later after a deep dive in his book he found his answers himself, was super excited excited to share this experiment with all of you.
Objective - To show sound creates vibrations.
Materials needed -
1 empty bowl
Plastic to cover the bowl on the top
A rubber/elastic band to fix the plastic tightly
Some rice/any grains
1 big empty vessel
1 ladle/stick to strike the vessel
Method - As demonstrated in the video, cover the bowl tightly with the plastic using a band. Put some grains on it, bring the vessel near the bowl and ensure that it’s not touching the bowl. Now strike the vessel to make some noise, the grains start moving.
Explanation - striking the vessel vibrates it and the air inside it which creates sound waves and this vibrates the bowl. Hence, the grains move.

New year wishes to everybody! Hope in the days to come we all remain healthy and safe!
With a hope in our hearts, we stepped in 2022, nothing seemed right last year.
It has been a while that we appeared here, nonetheless, we feel so connected with each one of you. Well, we have been doing a lot of activities lately, and we are thrilled to share them with you as we did earlier. My little lad is 7, so most of the things are driven by him now.
Without much ado, here’s a video of Sammy talking about different landforms along with a simple practice worksheet.
📚 recommendation - DK First Geography Encyclopaedia. An easy descriptive book with pictorial representation which piques the reader’s interest. Appropriate for children to introduce them to Geography.
And, yes, he made an attempt to make that model all by himself except cutting some hard cardboards.

Happy Indian Independence Day!
We recently concluded learning about some of the prominent monuments of India.
We had got these foam puzzles of Indian monuments from these turned out to be by far the best puzzles I have ever seen. Soft piecesmade out of foam sheets, the grooves are so well made which fit into each other so well, clear instructions for children to make the monuments along with brief information about each monument. It was very easy to dismantle them too and pack it up in the box. We simply loved this product. This 6 year old could do these all by himself.

Time hasn't been tougher for us. Samyak's grandmother succumbed, she left us too soon. Her sudden demise left us devastated. Little S seemed to have grown 10years older in these few weeks.
With the void in our hearts, we are trying to pick up the pieces and move on..
Here's Samyak's favourite photo with his Granny, just a year old photo.

The Covid crisis seems never ending, no outdoor plans for us. So being at home we decided to take a tour to the Airport.
We used some cardboard to make a mini model of an airport. It helped little S learn some of the signs and symbols used in an airport and runway.

Our creative project for February concluded with this castle. Taking cues from some YouTube videos, Sammy conceptualised the entire set up that you can see. Right from selecting the size of the cardboard boxes, placement of the towers, outside look and every minute details. He took great interest in making each and everything, I only helped him cut the cardboards.
Weekend was all sorted for us as the little man in the house was efficiently kept occupied.
Well thought, great efforts my boy!

Samyak must have read Robinson Crusoe several times, he mentioned that Robinson kept a track of days using symbols on trees. Hence, I introduced tally marks to him and he had a great time practicing.

Spices being an essential part of the Indian kitchen, I felt the need for Samyak to recognise the look and taste of some of common spices. Hence, we picked up some spices from the kitchen, know their English as well as local names. Also, we talked about which spices are used in some of his favourite dishes.
Let’s add some spice to our lives (and not just restrict it to our diets)!
