"Honoring Heritage."
"thanks to thee I can set myself free."

This piece was a journey in becoming. I started with a letter to my grandmothers (and their mothers). A message of gratitude.

Then came layers of conditioned pain, and struggle.
In each layer I shed something that no longer served.

The colors really bright, because I wanted to express the joy that was dimmed in generations before. The blue representimg the safe, muted colors my grandmothers could express in, but never fully dimmed their light.

The magic of cocreation brought the drawing of the roots.

The birds represent the women in my line.

I'll share more if the layers and the release of patterns some other time.

Went to a silent disco Saturday! Ever been? It's a brilliant concept. Dealing with just your own music and everyone choosing their own tune. Literally dancing to your own tune.

Already had fun deciding to attend a concert by Tibitha last minute. Next the silent disco, to end the night at our first gay bar. Appropriately called: the rainbow.

Feels like I'm starting to live again.
Liking the results.

Some pictures of our big guy. He scared us a few days ago by suddenly falling ill and needing to go to the vet.

Luckily he's on the mend now.
We hope to have him around for a while longer yet.

Once a month we have a standing date with my niece Ella and we go do something fun together.

Today was no different. Picked her up from school.
🏃‍➡️Went to the cable car (or whatever that thing is called)

🎨We each made a painting to give to Sanne

Ella made a really cool picture of Gru (because we all love Despicable Me)

🍝 Made Spaghetti

🍦And ended the night with gelato

We had so much fun.
Love sharing these days with her.

Joined at a concert from a Bee Gees tribute band the other day. We had a blast! They were so good!

You know you're living a good life when you can join your girlfriend's mother to a concert.

Sometimes...
When you hold my hand...
I feel so much I think I'm about to break.
It feels so full. So pure. So precious.

It's like I've put my heart in your hands and I feel kind of naked. Fragile, but not vulnerable because I feel so profoundly safe.

It's like you cut through all the barriers I've put up around my heart. All the walls break down and I get to feel safe being me with you.

Connected.
Cared for.
Protected.
Loved.

For the first time.

It heals me. Breaks me open to more love, more life, and yet... While it feels pure and safe, it's so new to my system that part of me wants to run. I'm learning to stay in it. To lean in when my mind wants to close.

Practicing every day to keep my heart open.
Because the more I let you in. The better life gets.

You are magic

The Quest for Friendship.
Flying with those who believe anything is possible.

This piece is inspired by my trip to University in Tallinn in 2023.

I flew to Tallinn Estonia and lived there for a month with my fellow tribe members.

The piece incorporates..... Names of the speakers I listened to.. A hand drawn map of the area from my hosts.. Glitter used in one of the theme parties... Tickets and receipts from the (grocery) store.. Post it's I left on the fridge with common phrases so as to learn the language while there.

And...
My favorite:
Post its with loving notes my fellow tribe members left me as part of custom .

I added birds that kind of look like flying penguins. Which is fitting, because one of the notes read: you can achieve anything you want.

Hence the subtitle: flying with those who believe anything is possible.

This is my salute and shoutout to my fellow tribe members. Thank you for a magical time. It was an incredible journey.

Waar wacht je nog op?
Op een teken dat je toestemming geeft om te gaan? De dingen te doen die je wilt?

Dat is wat ik voel bij deze kaart.

Deze kaart nodigd me uit om te zijn als dit meisje. Zij omarmd het stoplicht, wijst naar de schoenen en nodigd me daarmee uit om mezelf groen licht te geven, om mijn dansschoenen aan te doen en in de richting te bewegen van die dingen waar ik blij van word.

Een passende boodschap voor mij vandaag.

Had such a great time with
Talking. Laughing. Cooking. Playing games (guess what? I can play chess!)

Such simple and common words.
But really there are no words to describe what a gift this is to me.

I had to break open so many times in order to let this in. Had to let go of so much to receive this now.

The feeling I have now of love, connection, friendship is priceless and defies description.

Except to say...

What a year!
Won't go into it now, but....
😲😭😅🏃🫠🫣😍🫨😬🤯🥰 about sums it up (just me? Anyone?)

And...
What a beautiful way to end it.

Toasting with the one I love.
Surrounded by wonderful additions to my family.
Having fun.
Living it up.

Leaving behind 2024 and with it letting go of the struggle, the shoulds and supposed to-s...

No more standing on the sidelines.
No more hiding.
No more trying so damn hard to get it right.

And for 2025...
I wanna play!
Embracing the messy.
Letting myself step up, slip up, mess up...
All to experience more love, more fun, more adventure, more joy... More life!

I wanna freaking live!!

Oh, and by the way...

This doesn't involve resolutions or bold proclamations. It actually means I'm gonna let go of the plan, go with what seems like a good idea in the moment and see where that takes me.

It'll be messy.
But I'll also be more free.
