Autumn arrangement Foundation class

Learn the traditional art of hand engraving from the ground up.

A 70 days Foundation Hand engraving training full-emersion with 5 live practical days on the island Texel in the Netherlands from Oct. 29th till Nov. 2nd 2026. Start is on September 28th | Finish on Nov. 30th.

The preparations start one month in advance via the online learning environment with theory lessons. After the 5 practical live days you will be guided for another month via the online learning environment with practical exercises.

The course is concluded with a KHN® certificate.
This edition is English, German and Dutch spoken.

About the program

The Foundation Course is a complete 70-day learning experience combining live training, online modules and personal guidance. You will build a strong technical base in line-engraving, tool control and artistic fundamentals.

Hand engraving and I are one

For almost my entire life, my hands have been connected to this beautiful craft. Working with metal, searching for the perfect line, the focus and silence that come with engraving… it always brings me back to my essence.

A craft requires patience. Every movement has meaning. A line cannot simply be undone; every mark is made with attention, feeling, and respect for the material.

For me, hand engraving is a way of telling stories. Not only through the piece that is created, but also through the journey of making it.

Over the years, my atelier has become a place where creativity, craftsmanship, and personal growth come together. A place where I can express myself, and where my hands sometimes speak what words cannot.

I feel deeply connected to this craft. It is not only what I do.

It is who I am.

🇬🇧 Sometimes the greatest victories aren't about creating the perfect engraving—they're about the journey it took to get there.

During last week's live practical days of the Basic Hand Engraving Module on Texel, we experienced one of those unforgettable moments. With this student's permission, I'd like to share this milestone because it deserves to be celebrated.

Years ago, he began learning hand engraving while facing an additional challenge: a visual impairment and no depth perception. Something as fundamental as breaking chips seemed almost impossible.

But he never gave up.

Through incredible perseverance, patience, and countless hours of practice, he kept moving forward. Last week, he achieved something that once seemed out of reach.

This is what craftsmanship means to me. It's not just about mastering a technique—it's about determination, resilience, and believing that progress is possible.

I couldn't be prouder of this milestone and feel honored to be part of his journey.

Sometimes the greatest achievement isn't the finished engraving—it's discovering what you're truly capable of along the way.

🇳🇱 Soms zijn de grootste overwinningen niet de perfecte gravure, maar de weg ernaartoe.

Tijdens de live praktijkdagen van de basismodule op Texel vorige week beleefden we zo'n bijzonder moment. Met toestemming deel ik graag dit verhaal.

Jaren geleden begon deze leerling aan een uitdaging die voor hem extra moeilijk was. Door een visuele beperking en het ontbreken van dieptewaarneming leek iets ogenschijnlijk eenvoudigs als het afbreken van spanen bijna onmogelijk.

Maar opgeven was geen optie.

Met veel doorzettingsvermogen, geduld en eindeloos oefenen zette hij stap voor stap vooruitgang. En vorige week gebeurde het: waar het ooit onmogelijk leek, lukte het hem wél.

Dat is waar vakmanschap voor mij over gaat. Niet alleen de techniek, maar ook de moed om door te blijven gaan wanneer iets moeilijk is.

Ik ben ontzettend trots op deze stap en dankbaar dat ik deel mag uitmaken van deze reis. Dit is een succes dat veel verder gaat dan een mooie gravure.

💙 Soms is de grootste winst niet het eindresultaat, maar het vertrouwen dat je onderweg opbouwt.

Vandaag weer helemaal uitgeblust thuis na een bijzonder weekend in België. 🇧🇪

Voor de Goudsmid Marktplaats Ontmoetingsdag stond ik gisteren, ook als vrijwilliger, maar vooral de hele dag in de Diamantbeurs van Antwerpen met JMJ Atelier Gravure en KHN® Academy & Kenniscentrum Handgraveren.

Tijdens demonstraties en workshops traditioneel handgraveren mochten bezoekers zelf ervaren hoe dit eeuwenoude ambacht werkt. Het was geweldig om te zien hoeveel enthousiasme, nieuwsgierigheid en interesse er was voor een vak dat in zijn traditionele vorm steeds zeldzamer wordt.

De hele dag waren mijn werkbanken gevuld met graverende handen, geïnteresseerde vakmensen en bezoekers die de beleving van het handgraveren wilden ontdekken. Dat leverde mooie gesprekken, nieuwe inzichten en vooral veel plezier op.

Moe, maar met een voldaan gevoel kijk ik terug op een geslaagde dag. Superleuk!

En dan de dag eindigen met vrijwilligers en deelnemers met een gezamenlijk buffet was een Kadootje... En nog méér netwerken!
