About fl**ge bolt load under internal pressure

Most engineers believe that the bolt load will increase if internal pressure is applied to a fl**ge assembly with an internal bolt circle gasket.

The first part shows the misunderstanding, the second part shows the interaction of the result of applying the internal pressure and the flexibility of the fl**ge hub with fl**ge ring. This gives a different meaning to the m and y factors used in the Taylor Forge method and a different view on the effect of the loads during assembly, test and operation/design conditions.

Online Master's Degree on Rotating Machinery (5th Edition)
We are delighted to announce the fifth edition of the online Rotating Machinery Master’s Degree organized by InIPED from September 2018 to July 2019.
The previous editions of the program attracted a lot of attention involving together more than 100 participants from all over the world.

The most relevant features of this program are:
- The teaching methodology employed is "problem based learning", which places great emphasis on learning by applying the theory to solve a real-life problem related to turbomachinery.
- We make extensive use of web conferences to give the students the chance to interact with the instructors.
- The instructors have been carefully selected from different backgrounds: industry, university and manufacturers. This guarantees real world study cases and up-to-date knowledge coming from people who are working in this field.

The program is mainly aimed at:
- Rotating equipment engineers
- Maintenance equipment engineers

Turbocharger vs. HPRT: energy recovery applications in Oil&Gas Industry

In the past, most of the Oil&Gas industries used conventional pressure reducing valves to suit to downstream process conditions. Therefore, a big amount of hydraulic energy was dissipated and wasted. Hydraulic Power Recovery Turbines (HPRT) were developed in order to convert this pressure into mechanical shaft energy and increase the overall process efficiency as first step in the energy use area. Nowadays, HPRTs are being substituted by turbochargers. This new rotating machinery is mainly used in Chemical Plants and they are under development by several manufacturers in the Oil&Gas Industry. The main goal of this workshop is to follow selection criteria of these machines (either HPRTs or Turbochargers) highlighting advantages and disadvantages of both options in the same process application.

Thermoplastic labyrinth seals to reduce leakage in centrifugal compressors

Thermoplastic labyrinth seals offer the possibility to reduce the internal leakage flow over the cover disc of closed impellers in centrifugal compressors. The efficiency gain compared to traditional metallic labyrinth seals mainly depends on differential pressure and sealing clearance. The presentation shows the results of development and testing of thermoplastic labyrinth seals, which are fully interchangeable with previous metallic seals. A seal design for integrally geared centrifugal compressors is introduced and the calculation of optimized sealing clearances for different operation conditions is shown.
