WHEN THE BODY TURNS AGAINST ITSELF

On Anger, Bile, and the Silent Architecture of Disease

Long before inflammation had a name, before neuroscience mapped neurotransmitters and medicine learned to scan the brain, Hildegard von Bingen observed something unsettlingly simple: the body does not fall ill randomly. It responds. It contracts. It reacts to what the soul cannot digest.

In her view, illness begins the moment something inside us feels profoundly wrong—when the soul senses violation, injustice, or inner contradiction. The first response is not pain, but tightening. The heart pulls in. The liver constricts. Circulation shifts. The inner landscape darkens, as if a fog descends over the chest. What we now call oxidative stress, she perceived as a loss of inner clarity—a dimming of life force.

Sadness comes first. Not dramatic sadness, but the quiet kind. The kind that settles in the tissues. And when sadness has no voice, it ferments.

What follows is not always grief—but anger turned inward.

This is where Hildegard’s insight becomes uncomfortable. She did not see suppressed rage as an emotional inconvenience. She saw it as corrosive. When anger has nowhere to go, it seeks a body. It thickens bile. It sharpens digestion into something bitter and aggressive. The liver, designed to filter and protect, becomes overloaded with unspoken fury and unmet boundaries.

The bile turns dark—not symbolically, but functionally. It loses its ability to flow cleanly. Instead of supporting digestion and clarity, it irritates. It burns. It travels upward, clouding the head, disturbing thought, altering perception. And downward, inflaming the gut, weakening the intestinal barrier, disrupting the sense of orientation and presence.

What modern medicine now calls leaky gut, brain fog, mood instability, autoimmune activation, or neuroinflammation—Hildegard recognized as the consequence of inner violence. Not violence done to others, but violence turned against the self.

In her world, this was not a moral judgment. It was an observation.

A body forced to hold what should have been expressed will eventually express it anyway—through symptoms.

What is striking is her clarity around cognition. She believed that prolonged, undigested anger could damage the mind more profoundly than many recognized neurological illnesses. Not because anger is evil—but because it isolates. It severs the connection between feeling and meaning. The person becomes inwardly besieged, reacting rather than perceiving.

This is not about “thinking positively.” It is about allowing truth to move.

Anger, when acknowledged, has direction. It protects. It clarifies. It restores boundaries. But when denied, it becomes auto-aggressive. The immune system mirrors this. The body begins to attack itself, not because it is broken, but because it has been trained to turn its defense inward.

Hildegard did not separate soul, organ, and mind. Neither should we.

Healing, in her sense, was not the elimination of symptoms. It was the restoration of inner circulation—emotional, metabolic, spiritual. Bile must flow. Grief must move. Anger must speak or soften. The heart must be allowed to expand again.

And perhaps most radically: the body must be believed.

Because the body does not betray us.

It remembers what we survived.

And it speaks in the only language left when silence has gone on too long.

With care

Most New Age ideas are in my opinion
not the shaman’s view

The ability to expirience Oneness with the Universes and spiritual realms is base and anchor of the strongest shamans

To understand a bit more of that I will give a
clearer view on a couple of things

1
In all humbleness:
a shaman needs and acknowledges both,
human and spirit …
and they are open to connect lifelong with spiritual and human teachers.
To learn, connect and reconnect and to cooperate with all that is available.

While this is regular in most shamanic/animistic cultures we need to remember when you are born into a type of westernised culture that you are no longer surrounded by mentors and shamanic learning experiences from birth.

How to interact with spirit in general terms
and in ceremony becomes hard wired into you
if you keep learning from spirit and human interaction .

The human spiritual teachings are less formalised and more by example.

This is not how most of us live......
we are born into cultures where spirit is barely acknowledged
and our human teachers are more in a formal commercialised setting.

The language we use, the form and transmutation capacities
are not hardwired into us from birth so we come to this like children.

A shaman must be able to bridge the human and spiritual world adeptly hence we need teachers or mentors in both.

2. In most cases shamans do actually go through physical near-death expiriences and returns,
mostly even more than once.
And with that in all cases there is the death of regular perceptions.

BUT It is not an ego death as the new age paradigs suggests
,
as most shamans have strong exceptional energy ..
as they walk into a room you will know it !

3. In general are shamans open to say they are shaman,
because they are aknowledged and respected in their community and they are willing to serve humans and every other living creature.

Where you have a culture in which holy people are prominent
the tendency tends to be to disapprove the referring to oneself as holy or special,
but it should be noted that in many other cultures the shamans are equally humble but open to serve the people without holding back .

It is a cultural thing......
but any shaman where ever they are in the world recognises that they do what they do because of Spirit ,
NOT by their own power.

In the cultures where people are more ready to refer to themselves as shaman the role is seen as more ordinary and necessary and part of daily life.

What i think is important for people born outside of shamanic cultures or families is
that being acknowledged as a shaman by someone within a shamanic lineage is pré
because most people simply don’t have the grounding
to make the call themselves .

We are like children in this world..proper guidance is everything and
it asks more than just doing some courses or a weekend ritual.

If you haven’t been acknowledge by a traditional lineageholder
then better call yourself a shamanic practitioner .. and not a shaman

Not to say you can’t shamanise but it is more appropriate to use the correct name.

4. Shamanism is a connected practice but MUCH more than ritualistic practice.
The ability to become One with the Universes is base and anchor of the strongest shamans .

If you dont have a daily spiritual practice or your practices and ceremonies are not firmed by human teachings and traditional exposures
its likely that you are not able to shamanise effectively and with enough skills.

As with any relationship it takes
commitment and time
to build a robust and good relationship with your helping spirits
similar to any other form of marriage or intimate relationship.
There are no short cuts and no easy rides.
It just requires slow and easy and a long long time.....

we are building trust in consistency
not by waving from across the road while passing.

It requires dialogue with spirit and lots of questions and answers..

it requires serving both .. the spirits and the community.

If you are not in for the long haul then you are simply NOT in.

My first teacher told me :
” after 20 years you are just beginning “

and over more than 50 years down the line
i hold that to be true.

5. Lastly there are many people that work with the spirits but few are shaman.
They might be animists or mediums or different types of healers and other forms of medicine people.
We are all family, we respect and listen to spirit,
but we all work differently.
A medium calling oneself a shaman is like a gynecologist calling oneself a heart surgeon......
both needed but both do different things.

This comes back to form, how do you connect and collaborate with the Spirit.
If you are not able to consciously experience and manage spirit possession and trance ,
if you can’t communicate with the winds, the waters, stones, animals, gods / goddesses, ancestors, fires, trees, group spirits.
If you can’t travel time / space to visit other realms and timelines to collect answers to bring information back to support healing of the people in the community

then you are probably NOT a shaman.

Once we understand the way we work best then we can work effectively rather than trying to be something different.

I can add so much more ..

many new age ideas are pervasive and spread everything and get into everything without the deeper understanding of the spiritual depth and interrelated connection of the spiritual realms

Shamanism is neither reiki or any other pranic healing modality,
Shamanism is very specific and is rooted in and grounded out the earliest spiritual traditions of humankind.
We need to understand and embody Spirit with an animistic understanding of the world
before we get to the practice of shamanism.

In Face of Death

Visitor: My only son died a few days ago in a car accident, and I find it almost impossible to accept his death with a philosophic fortitude. I know that I am not the first person to suffer such bereavement. I also know that each one of us has to die some time. I have in my mind sought solace from all the usual ploys by which one consoles oneself and others in such predicaments. And yet, I come back to the tragic fact that a cruel fate should deprive my son of everything in the prime of his life. Why? Why? I keep on asking myself. Sir, I cannot get over my grief.

Maharaj: (After sitting for a minute or so, with his eyes closed) It is unavailing and futile to say that I am grieved because in the absence of 'self ('me' as an individual) there are no 'others', and I see myself mirrored in all of you. Obviously, you have not come to me for mere sympathy, which you surely must have received in abundance from your relatives and friends. Remember, one goes through life, year after year, enjoying the usual pleasures and suffering the usual pains, but never once seeing life in its true perspective.

And what is the true perspective?
It is this: There is no 'me', nor 'you'; there never could be any such entities. Every man should understand this and have the courage to live his life with this understanding.

Do you have this courage, my friend?
Or, must you wallow in what you call your grief?

V: Maharaj, pardon me, I do not fully understand what you have said, but I do feel startled and shaken. You have exposed the core of my being, and what you have said so pithily appears to be the golden key to life. Please elaborate on what you have just said. What exactly is it that I must do?

M: Do? Do?
Absolutely nothing: Just see the transient as transient, the unreal as unreal, the false as false, and you will realize your true nature. You have mentioned your grief. Have you ever looked at 'grief' in the face and tried to understand what it really is?
To lose somebody or something you have loved dearly, is bound to cause sorrow. And since death is total annihilation with absolute finality, the sorrow caused by it is unmitigated. But even this overwhelming sorrow can not last long, if you intellectually analyze it.

What exactly are you grieving for?
Go back to the beginning: Did you and your wife make any agreement with someone that you would have a son — a particular body — and that he would have a particular destiny?

Is it not a fact that his conception itself was a chance?
That the foetus survived the many hazards in the womb was another matter of chance. That the baby was a boy was yet another chance. In other words what you called your 'son' was just a chance event, a happening over which you have had no control at all at any time, and now that event has come to an end.

What exactly are you grieving for?
Are you grieving for the few pleasant experiences and the many painful experiences that your son has missed in the years to come?
Or, are you, really and truly, grieving for the pleasures and conveniences that you will no longer be able to receive from him?

Mind you, all this is from the point of view of the false! Nonetheless, are you with me so far?

V: I am afraid, I continue to remain stunned. I certainly follow what you have just said. Only, what did you mean when you said that all this was on the level of the false?

M: Ah! Now we shall come to the truth. Please understand as truth, that you are not an individual, a 'person'. The person, that one thinks one is, is only a product of imagination and the self is the victim of this illusion. 'Person' cannot exist in its own right. It is the self, consciousness, that mistakenly believes that there is a person and is conscious of being it.

Change your viewpoint.
Don't look at the world as something outside of yourself. See the person you imagine yourself to be as a part of the world—really a dream-world— which you perceive as an appearance in your consciousness, and look at the whole show from the outside. Remember, you are not the mind,
which is nothing but the content of consciousness.

As long as you identify yourself with the bodymind you are vulnerable to sorrow and suffering. Outside the mind there is just being, not being father or son, this or that.

You are beyond time and space, in contact with them only at the point of now and here, but otherwise timeless, spaceless and invulnerable to any experience. Understand this and grieve no more. Once you realize that there is nothing in this world that you can or need call your own, you will look at it from the outside, as you look at a play on the stage or a movie on the screen, admiring and enjoying, perhaps suffering, but deep down, quite unmoved.

30/08/2024

Snakes are powerful symbols of transformation, healing, and renewal. They embody the energies of shedding old skins, releasing what no longer serves, and embracing new beginnings. The snake’s ability to shed its skin is a profound metaphor for personal growth and evolution, encouraging us to let go of the past and embrace change. Snakes are also seen as keepers of ancient wisdom and knowledge, often associated with the mysteries of life, death, and rebirth. In many cultures, snakes are revered for their ability to navigate both the physical and spiritual realms, bridging the gap between the seen and unseen worlds.

As a totem animal, snakes represent individuals who are deeply intuitive, adaptable, and wise. Those with the snake as their totem are often highly perceptive and attuned to the subtle energies around them. They have a natural ability to sense danger and navigate complex situations with grace and precision. The snake totem offers the gift of transformation, teaching us how to release outdated patterns and beliefs in order to grow and evolve. It encourages us to trust our instincts and to embrace change as a necessary part of life. Snakes as totems also help individuals tap into their inner wisdom and connect with the deeper mysteries of existence.

The spiritual significance of snakes extends beyond their role as symbols of transformation. Snakes are often associated with kundalini energy, a powerful life force believed to reside at the base of the spine. When awakened, this energy rises up through the chakras, leading to spiritual enlightenment and a deeper connection with the divine. In this context, snakes represent the potential for spiritual awakening and the journey towards self-realization. They remind us of our inherent power and the importance of aligning with our true purpose. Snakes also symbolize healing, both physical and spiritual, and are often seen as guardians of sacred knowledge and ancient healing practices.

As guardian spirits, snakes protect the sacred and the mystical. They are guardians of the earth and its hidden treasures, ensuring that sacred knowledge and ancient wisdom are preserved and protected. Snakes are also seen as protectors of the natural world, safeguarding the delicate balance of ecosystems.

Despite their spiritual significance, snakes have often been demonized throughout history. This demonization is rooted in fear and misunderstanding, often perpetuated by those who seek to control or suppress spiritual knowledge. By portraying snakes as symbols of evil or danger, these individuals discourage people from exploring the deeper mysteries of life and embracing their own power. The demonization of snakes serves to keep people in a state of fear and ignorance, preventing them from accessing the wisdom and transformation that snakes represent. However, by overcoming this fear and embracing the true nature of snakes, we can tap into their transformative energy and unlock our full potential. Snakes want humanity to remember their divine nature, to embrace transformation, and to awaken to the deeper mysteries of existence.

Some honesty that I feel that need to be shared

I come across some issues and I want to address that in public .
Why in public you may think ? Well .. If talking is not possible but reading my public messages is still done ..
than this is the medium I use to communicate
( if it is about you …you know .. you know )

In my world a loving, healthy relationship with friends , family and people in my private sphere is very important
And I feel I want to be able to talk about everything ,
without being afraid that a misunderstanding can’t be repaired and will be swept away in silence over days, weeks , months or even years …

I expirience way too often that I can’t have open , honest conversations about all subject in life ( politics , health , money , spirituality , sexuality , work or any other subject that is relevant and
important to connect freely about with the ones I share my precious life with ..

I dedicated more than 50 years of this life in taking care of others the best can ..
Their health , wealth and good name and life purpose was most important and of value for me to spend most of my energy to support them where ever I could..
But in opposite I feel way too often that the people close to me can’t receive me for who I am and how they could / can support me..I am way to often put at the end of the waitingline .
There is a lack of open mind
and a loving heart and it is
extremely
even heartbreakingly painful for me to expirience that over and over again, especially when misunderstandings or misperceptions are taken as “real “ and start living their own life

I really want my life to be based on deep connections who are pillared on trust and willingness to (re)connect at a level that goes beyond the first layers of interaction.
Pillars that are there because I believe in interconnectedness , interrelating and communion of Spirit and Human Nature

Maybe you think now .. why is she bringing this up ?
Well .. I am so tired of being shut down every single time I bring something up or when I write or say things that are not correctly understood but are taken as something that is used against me ..
Ofcourse I know that we all live in our own made-up reality and that our behaviour is corresponding to that personal reality .
But
people close to me who are treating me like if it does not matter what I feel or think or how their ( non)actions affecting my body and soul are making me sick .. litterly ..
I am getting unwell of being rejected and put in a place I don’t want to be in.
I no longer tolerate that ..

I don’t t speak up easily about painful personal matters ,
cause
I prefer love and care above all but inspite of that I am mistreated to many times now with disrespect and dismission ..

I want to let you know that I am no longer available for that kind of BS in my life
So for the ones around me who do not care about connecting from a heartfelt place can better stay away..
the messages of unkindness or unwillingness or simple silence stonewalling are clear enough to me
I don’t ask any longer for a response or a forever happy together life
I did what I could do and I am out of energy to carry this further ..
I am really done with so many assumptions that are not correlating with my being and who harm my wellbeing and health ..
I believe that my heart deserves to be held and rest to heal
and if you can’t be of support of that
than please leave me alone

A crone is a woman who has found her voice.
She knows that silence is consent and her consent is most valuable

This is a quality that makes older women feared.
It is not the innocent voice of a child who says, “the emperor has no clothes,”
but the fierce truthfulness of the crone that is the voice of reality.

Both the innocent child and the crone are seeing through the illusions, denials, or “spin” to the truth.

But the crone knows about the deception and its consequences,
and it angers her .. to live in a lie

Her fierceness springs from the heart, gives her courage, makes her a force to be reckoned with.

― Jean Shinoda Bolen
Crones Don't Whine - Concentrated Wisdom for Juicy Women

Hecate, the goddess of the crossroads, is the Crone.
The crossroads in Europe still have little cairns where people drop their stones in honor of the goddess.
Those cairns have always been the places of Hecate. The crossroads represents a place where consciousness is crossed by the unconscious, in other words, a place where you have to surrender your ego will to a higher will. The Crone has gone though one crossroads after another. She has reached a place of surrender where her ego demands are no longer relevant. This is the positive side of the Crone. She is a surrendered instrument and therefore detached.

Detachment doesn’t mean indifference. It means she has been there.
She has suffered, but she can draw back from the suffering.
A conscious person in the presence of an unconscious person’s pain may suffer more than the unconscious person.
So, it’s not that she doesn’t suffer.
It’s not that she’s indifferent or withdrawn.
She’s right there, totally present.
She’s got nothing to lose.

She can be who she is and live with the straight, flat-out, naked truth.

Therefore the Crone acts as a tuning fork in an environment
because she is so real herself.
She rings a true tone.
People are brought into harmony with that tuning, so it’s very releasing.

People can respond to their own true tone.
The Crone can afford to be honest. She’s not playing games anymore.

She brings people into that soul space where all outer conflicts dissolve and they can experience their own essence.

She has nothing to lose.
Who she is cannot be taken away from her.
She has no investment in ego. Therefore, there is no power operating. She’s the kind of person you can honestly talk to, profoundly trust.

I would think of her masculinity as being very discerning,
with no sentimentality.

She would be able to cut with a well-honed sword.
She would be able to see what is no longer essential to life, a relationship, for example, that has become destructive.

She would perceive it, see through to the heart of it, and cut where necessary, but cut with love.
I always envision her wielding a golden sword with a silver handle.
All the perceptivity of gold, but handled with the love of silver.
The masculine and feminine together.

She has the kind of wisdom that takes life with a grain of salt, smiles at the Divine Play

Their love was palpable. No advice. Simply being, saying almost nothing. I knew I was totally seen and totally understood.

They could constellate my own inner healer
because they could see me as I am.
