We had a full weekend of educational walks at Sint Pieter, some nice, sunny and early, some late and almost dark and some not so sunny 😁 I'm posting pictures of what we observed, so it can remain in our memories and Facebook profiles forever, and a shot of the group that showed up in the worst weather 😂 they WILL be recognized 😁💪

Letters to plants🤣🤷‍♀️
dear Taraxacum, dandelion;

so much was said about you, so much written, loved and criticized, but criticized only because your overabundance indicates some seriously bad agriculture practices.
And so much was loved because you're an excellent medicinal plant, as well as a delicious spring salad. Here, in Dutch climate, even less abundant autumn and winter salad.
Thank you, most successful rascal of urbia. You really need no help in reproduction do you.

Taraxalisin is a serine proteinase found in the latex of dandelion roots. Rudenskaya et al. (1998) found that taraxalisin hydrolyzes a chromogenic peptide substrate Glp-Ala-Ala-Leu-pNA optimally at pH 8.0. Maximal activity of the proteinase in the roots is attained in April, at the beginning of plant development after the winter period.

KUDOS to my socially distant first - timers (engineers edition 😂) for showing up in the rain, and learning as vigorously as mushrooms are currently growing! I'm as proud as a peacock. This was a great Sunday walk, here's the recap of the prominent species I've emphasized! I expect the participants to comment on each species on what they've learnt 😁😁💪
