"Pride Meets Prejudice in Poland. A geopolitical and historical background to LGBTQIA+ rights in Poland” (12 April 2022)

As LGBTQIA+ rights are deteriorating in Poland, we want to share knowledge and generate a discussion on this every important topic. For this we have invited experts on the region to share their knowledge on the context against which current events are taking place: dr. Pola Cebulak and dr. Iwona Guść. After hearing their stories, we will host a panel debate where young Polish LGBTQIA+ people will share their experiences. Of course, there will be room for questions from the audience!

UvA Pride is organizing a webinar on LGBTQI+ Asylum in the Netherlands:

A Hostile Welcome: Anti-LGBTQI+ violence in the Dutch asylum procedure

Despite having come to the Netherlands to find refuge, LGBTQI+ asylum seekers are often confronted with high levels of violence and discrimination during the asylum procedure. Drawing on accounts from LGBTQI+ asylum seekers, activists, and academics, this webinar aims to shine a light on anti-LGBTQI+ violence during the asylum procedure, asking what the causes and consequences of this violence are, and how we can analyse, discuss, and address this violence in a time of heightened political polarisation, xenophobia, and homonationalism.
