Hi everyone, we are thrilled to announce the tenth edition of the ADAM Summer School in 2025! 🤩

The ADAM Summer School is a unique opportunity for second to fifth-year medical students to gain hands-on experience in anesthesiology and acute medicine. The program includes practical sessions at the Simulation Center of the VU Medical Center, where participants can practice intubations, coniotomies, and other critical skills. Inspiring lectures and workshops led by experts in the field round out this immersive learning experience. 💉🏥🩺💊

Beyond the classroom, our social program will allow you to explore the beautiful capital of Amsterdam! There is much to discover about Amsterdam's rich history, culture, and nightlife with your new international peers. 🌞🫂💝

Meet the medical team! Today we introduce you to Sophie

"Hello everyone, I'm Sophie, a fourth-year anesthesiology resident based in Amsterdam. Alongside Kay, I've had the pleasure of providing lots of education in medical simulation, which is one of my great passions. Therefore I'm thrilled to be a part of the medical program for the Summer School. Additionally, I'm excited for you to experience Amsterdam, renowned as one of the most beautiful and enjoyable cities in the world. I'm excited to meet all of you soon!"

Meet the medical team! Today we introduce you to Bas.

"Bas van Wees is my name, and I work as a resuscitation officer and nurse anesthetist. I integrate clinical tasks with ADAM Simlab education. Critical care and anesthesia education particularly interests me. I currently oversee courses in trauma and resuscitation care in addition to serving as an operator for the simulation center. We would be happy to provide you the chance to use the summer school as a springboard to a fascinating career in anesthesiology."

Meet the medical team! Today we introduce you to Micha

"My name is Micha Erwteman and I’ve been fortunate to work alongside Kay and Ralf as an instructor at the ADAM simulation lab. Born and raised in Amsterdam I went to medical school at the VU University and did my residency in Anesthesiology at the VU Medical Center. During my training I developed a real enthusiasm for education and specifically Medical Simulation. When not at work I enjoy playing guitar, piano or singing. During the summer school I’ll be teaching about the history of anesthesia, and will help with the hands-on workshops. I welcome you all to Amsterdam; I hope that you’ll enjoy all the summer university has to offer and that you’ll have a thrilling time here with all the city has to offer!"

Meet the medical team! Today we introduce you to Ralf

Dr. Ralf Krage! Ralf was the founder of ADAM Summer School 9 years ago.
Ralf is an anesthesiologist, currently working in Dubai. He is the former director of the ADAM simulation center, and the former president of SESAM (Society in Europe for Simulation Applied to Medicine) and vice-president of the DSSH (Dutch Society for Simulation in Healthcare). He is passionate about simulation and has a special interest in Human Factor issues and multidisciplinary teamwork.

Meet the medical team! Today we introduce you to Stefan

"My name is Stefan Gisin, I’m a staff anesthesiologist at the University Hospital in Basel/Switzerland and deployed in all specialties of clinical anesthesia. Beyond I have a special interest in pre-hospital emergency medicine as flying doctor for the Swiss Helicopter Rescue Service (Rega) and passionate ATLS Course Director. As head of the Swiss Center for Medical Simulation in Basel I implemented a multitude of course concepts for pre- and postgraduate simulation-based education, focusing on interdisciplinary and multiprofessional team training. In my free time I try to be active in sports like hiking, skiing, mountain-biking and golf. The most characteristic trait overall; I’m passionate about teaching, enjoy collaboration with international colleagues and feel privileged to be part of the ADAM team in Amsterdam this summer again.

Meet the medical team! Today we introduce you to Kay

"Hi everyone! I'm Kay and I'm a third-year resident in Anesthesiology at the Amsterdam UMC. Currently I have paused my residency for a couple of years to focus on my PhD in palliative care. Together with Sophie I'm one of the doctors responsible for the medical programme. This summer school has a special place in my heart: almost 10 years ago I've started this summer school together with dr. Krage and this year we are organizing it for the ninth time! I am really looking forward to this year’s summer school and can’t wait to welcome you in our beautiful city of Amsterdam! Hope to see you soon here!"

Today we introduce you to Sophie!🥰 Who's responsible for the PR this year together with Jin.

"Hi everyone! I'm Sophie, 24 years old. Maybe we already had contact since I'm doing the PR this year, so I'm responding to some of your messages on fb 😉. I finished my bachelor last year and currently working as a nurse in Amsterdam UMC at the vascular surgery ward. In my free time I love to travel, go out for dinner or and walk with my sweet dog. I love Amsterdam and can't wait to show it to you. This will be my 6th year organizing ADAM summerschool, so I can tell you this will probably be the best week you've ever had. Next year I will start my studies in medicine all the way in Groningen so this will unfortunately also be my last year in the OC. I can't wait to meet everyone! See you then xx"

Today we introduced you to Jin!💘 Who's responsible for the PR this year together with Sophie.

"Hi! My name is Jin, and this year I am part of the PR group of ADAM Summer School. Last year I was a participant of the summer school and I loved it so much that I came back to help organise this year! I am 23 and currently working on my PhD in Cardiology. Some things that I love: good views, sunsets, long walks, spending my time being creative, spending time with my family and friends💗 I hope to see you all soon!"

Today we introduce you to Azhaar! ❤️‍🔥 Who is responsible for the social program together with Anne.

"Hello everyone! My name is Azhaar, and I am delighted to be part of the Organizing Committee of the ADAM Summer School. I am responsible for planning the Social Program for the week, which I'm excited to say will be a fun and engaging experience for all participants. As this is my sixth and final year on the committee, I am determined to make it the best one yet ;)

Our Social Program is designed to offer you the perfect blend of Dutch culture and "gezelligheid" - a unique Dutch concept that captures the feeling of warmth, coziness, and togetherness. You can expect to enjoy a wide range of exciting activities that will allow you to explore the city of Amsterdam and its surroundings, learn about Dutch traditions and customs, and meet new people from different cultures and backgrounds.

In addition to my role in the Organizing Committee, I am currently completing my master's degree in cardiovascular research and working towards pursuing a Ph.D. Outside of my academic pursuits, I love to travel and explore new places and cultures. I also enjoy cooking up some delicious Surinamese dishes in my free time.

I look forward to meeting you all at the ADAM Summer School and making this a memorable experience for everyone."

Today we introduce you to Anne!💖Who is responsible for the social program of ADAM 2024 together with Azhaar.

"Hello ADAM participants! I can’t wait to meet you all! My name is Anne, I just finished medical school and I would love to become an anaesthesiologist one day. Two years ago I was in your position, as a candidate of ADAM. I hope you will like this week as much as I did. During the week I had made many friends, some of whom I still speak to regularly. Be prepared to have a week full of new information, exciting simulation trainings, many social activities and wonderfull new friends!"

Today we introduce you to David! Who is our treasurer this year💸💸

"My name is David Woldemariam. I am 18 years young and a first-year medical student at VU University Amsterdam. I also fulfil the role of treasurer within this great club of people.
Travelling, playing horn in an orchestra for over 10 years and being active in sports are my greatest passions. I love running, and you could say that the app 'Strava' really is my bestie. Occasionally, I am also a bit crazy and take part in a triathlon. I can also meet up with friends and just chill out, don't worry.
This will be my first time at ADAM, so I am as curious as you are. However, I am convinced that together we will make it a fantastic week! Tot snel in Amsterdam!!! :)"
