From internship to real impact ✈️🌴

During her internship at Juancho E. Yrausquin Airport on Saba, Lissa stepped into the world of aviation law and safety. Not just learning theory, but applying it where it truly matters.

She worked on compliance, reviewed parts of the Aerodrome Manual, and supported regulatory and gap analyses. Work that helps keep procedures sharp and aviation safe.

What made this experience stand out?
Working in a close-knit island environment where collaboration is key. Short lines, strong teamwork, and real impact.

Along the way, she discovered something important:
aviation safety is more than rules. It’s about consistency, responsibility, and people working together.

And yes…
doing all of that surrounded by Saba’s views? That’s something special.

During her internship at the SMCAA, Aquilla stepped into the world of aviation, policy, and safety. Not just behind a desk, but in a field that’s constantly evolving.

She worked on a medical manual for aviation personnel, translated legislation, and reviewed applications. Work that may start on paper, but directly shapes how safe and structured the aviation sector operates.

What made this experience stand out?�The mix of content and context. Collaborating with different stakeholders while seeing firsthand how policy and practice come together on an island where resources may be limited, but impact is anything but.

And one thing became clear:�aviation safety isn’t the responsibility of just one party. It requires collaboration, awareness, and shared responsibility.

And let’s be honest…�working on meaningful projects while overlooking the Caribbean? That’s a pretty special combination 🌊

Van stage naar echte impact ✈️🌍

Voor zijn stage op Bonaire dook Timo in een vraag die best groot is:
Kunnen drones medische goederen tussen de eilanden vervoeren?

Dus ja... van onderzoek naar iets dat straks echt verschil kan maken.

Tijdens zijn stage werkte hij samen met verschillende organisaties, sprak hij met experts en bouwde hij aan een rapport dat helpt om deze innovatie verder te brengen.

Maar het ging niet alleen om het project.
Deze ervaring liet ook zien waar zijn energie ligt: werken aan complexe vraagstukken met echte impact.

En laten we eerlijk zijn…
werken op Bonaire terwijl je bijdraagt aan innovatie? Dat is best een mooie combinatie. 🌴

We zijn trots op deze stap en benieuwd waar dit onderzoek nog naartoe gaat.

SMCAA Sint Maarten is looking for a Legal and Policy Support Intern.

During this internship, you’ll work within the Civil Aviation section of the Ministry of TEATT and report directly to the Legal and Policy Advisor. You’ll gain hands-on experience at the intersection of law, policy, and aviation operations.

Your work includes legal research, adapting aviation laws to Sint Maarten’s regulatory framework, drafting legal memoranda and reports, and supporting audits and regulatory compliance. You’ll play an active role in maintaining a safe and reliable air traffic system.
