Print the Future

Delen

The Future is an independent publisher and printer founded by Klara van Duijkeren and Vincent Schipp For us, print is not dead, nor has it ever been dying.

The Future is a small, independent and research driven publisher and printer based in Amsterdam. It still fascinates and inspires. By collaborating, and co-creating, we publish and print books, magazines, posters, illustrations, newspapers, pamphlets etc. We give small and/or experimental ideas, that could have a large impact, an opportunity to communicate through the print medium. Though we are based in the center of Amsterdam, we collaborate and distribute internationally.

VRIJHAVEN PROJECT

Today we find ourselves at a crossroads — both culturally and socially, both politically and economically; perhaps we always are. In times like these there is a need for creativity, for new ideas and proper reflection on the past, the future and the present. What is a Vrijhaven, what does it mean to be a free or safe place for the necessary creativity to be nurtured and flourish. Through a series of interviews with creative practitioners in Japan and the Netherlands, we reflect on our own practice, our own work, and the context we find ourselves in. Not as a way to provide answers to any questions, but just as an open conversation. Perhaps this will add a little to the ongoing dialogue, and maybe not, but either way we can add voices otherwise not heard to the discussion.

This program is supported by the Embassy of the Netherlands in Tokyo, and DutchCulture.

There are 5 zines of interviews and essays. These are the Vrijhaven zines. Then there are 6 zines, each introducing one Japanese maker and one NL based maker — who is in what Zine is done at random.

Together these zines form the Common Future / Vrijhaven program. This year's zines will be bundled into a limited edition book once all the zines have been released.
