And just like that…WE ARE MOVING! It has been a long cherished dream to move our courses to one place where we can grow and bring our teachers and students together. And we happy to announce that finally found this home in the Gerard Doustraat 220, in De Pijp. Our conversation courses are the perfect option if you want to put your current level of Italian into practice. Conversation courses are a great choice if you want to challenge yourself, learn more vocabulary and practice with grammar in context. Always in a fun and stimulating way, as we like to do at Taalhuis Amsterdam.

We offer two levels of conversation courses

A2 on TUESDAY 12.30-13.30 (Online)
Do you already know the basic vocabulary and grammar of the Italian language? Do you want to keep practicing without studying further structures and verb tenses? If you want to put into practice everything you have learnt in the previous courses and keep exercising in a nice and relaxed way this is the course for you. We will work in pairs and groups so that everybody will have a lot of speaking time and we will simulate different kinds of situations you might encounter in Italy. We will discuss the Italian way of life and you will get a chance to refresh all your vocabulary and communicative skills!

B2 THURSDAY 20.30-22.00
Do you already have a good grasp on Italian grammar and an extensive vocabulary? But would you like to practice applying that knowledge and practice your speaking skills? This course is all about oral communication! A wide variety of subjects will be proposed during the course and at the end you will feel comfortable having an authentic Italian conversation!

Have you studied Italian for many years? Do you speak fluently and are you able to express yourself well in almost every situation, but are you keen on practicing regularly an correcting the tiny mistakes you might still make when speaking or writing? Then this is the course for you! In this course you’ll deepen your understanding of Italian grammar and its use in context, practicing a lot your productive skills with lots of conversation practice and some written assignments. You’ll use authentic Italian texts and other materials to practice with the language as it is spoken in Italy today. You’ll be challenged to bring your language skills to an almost native level!

The grammar/sentence structures that will be discussed in this course depend on the specific needs of the student group.

🖼️ 🎨 Are you interested in art, do you like to talk about it and do you want to improve your Italian? Then this is the ideal course for you. In this art-themed conversation course you will learn useful words and concepts that help you to describe a work of art. Guided by your teacher, you will learn to give your opinion on the works of Italian artists such as Giotto, Piero della Francesca and Caravaggio, but also modern artists and art movements such as ‘futurismo’ and De Chiricoe will be presented and discussed and some of the recent exhibitions taking place in Italy will be highlighted.

💡✏️ This course will offer a selection of artists chosen by the students (and therefore varying) will be examined and discussed every week, allowing everyone to bring their personal contribution to the course program and conversation.

Wednesday 20.30 - 22.00 Online
Start 18 September End 23 October (6 lessons)
💡✏️ Starting with the works of Caravaggio and his ‘chiaroscuro’, going back in time to the origin of modern painting of Giotto, you will see and discuss different artists and their most interesting and famous paintings.

This courses are suitable for students with a minimum level of B1+.

📰 🇮🇹 Italia Oggi’ is aimed at students who are wondering what’s on the news in Italy and what Italians will be talking about in the bar this week. The teacher will guide the class in a journey through Italian news, society, politics, cultural life and much more.
Every lesson is focused on a specific theme or news event that will be discussed. At the end of each lesson the students will vote on the topic for the next lesson.
Italia Oggi is suited to students of level B2 and higher.

This course has two options

🗣️📖 Do you have a solid basis in understanding Italian, but would you like to work on spontaneous speaking? In this course, you’ll use storytelling as a way to improve your conversation skills – as well as your creative writing through optional homework exercises. You’ll create stories around different themes, ranging from anecdotes about daily life to more challenging contexts where you can be as creative as you’d like. Storytelling is also an excellent method to practise grammar skills such as the use of pronouns and the various tenses.

This course is suitable for students with a minimum level of A2.

📖 Would you like to experience reading a book in Italian and discuss it with other students who are passionate about reading?
This is what we do in all our book clubs!

📚 In this class you will find a great variety of language input – from the book, the group and the teacher – and you will talk about different themes and topics with other students as passionate about Italian literature and culture as you are. Your homework is to read a few chapters of the book every week which, during the lesson, you will discuss with the group. 🗣️ You will be challenged by engaging activities themed around the book, the language and the characters. The book club is the perfect way to practice Italian in an interesting and exciting way.

CLASSICO (B2+) - "La bella estate" di Cesare Pavese

In our book club Classico you’ll read the classics of the Italian literature of the 20th century and ‘future classics’: newly published works.

GIALLO (B1+) - " Il re del gelato" di Cristina Cassar Scalia
Tuesday 17.30-19.00
In our book club Giallo you read detective stories and crime novels from the great Italian tradition as well as ‘new classics’.

On 7 September Taalhuis Amsterdam will hold its end-of-summer Open Day.
On this occasion we will present the courses starting in the autumn and all cultural activities for the school year 2024/2025. It is the perfect opportunity to to meet our Italian teachers, learn more about our school and Italian courses, and explore your learning options.
As if that were not enough, we will host a small market with independent sellers of Italian products in the Netherlands. Partners in this adventure are La Burrata (.kaasmakerij) e Dante Alighieri Amsterdam.

A dicembre Taalkeuken va in Italia!
Entra nella nostra cucina, prepareremo insieme una vera cena della festività. Imparerai a cucinare gnocchi di patate e canederli - gli gnocchi di pane del Trentino Alto Adige - e assaggerai un po’ di cotechino e lenticchie per festeggiare in anticipo l’arrivo del nuovo anno. Non mancheranno del panettone e del vino per rendere la festa ancora più festa.

Il workshop è aperto a tutti gli studenti e appassionati di cultura e lingua italiana di qualunque livello. Useremo l’italiano il più possibile ma per gli studenti meno avanzati possiamo parlare in olandese o in inglese se è necessario.
