🔹 IIAV Leadership Spotlight: Meet the Officers 🔹
Emeritus Professor Malcolm Crocker
We’re honored to shine the spotlight on Emeritus Professor Malcolm Crocker, the visionary founder and Executive Director of the International Institute of Acoustics and Vibration (IIAV). Recently awarded the Rayleigh Medal 2024 by the Institute of Acoustics (IoA) at their 50th Anniversary Conference in Manchester, Professor Crocker’s work has greatly influenced the fields of both acoustics and vibrations.
Professor Crocker's legacy traces back to early gatherings that set the stage for IIAV. Beginning with the 1969 Sonically Induced Vibration of Structures conference at Liverpool University, co-organized with Kenneth Mulholland, these events laid the groundwork for uniting sound and vibration topics under a common umbrella. His later efforts, including the seminal 1990 and 1992 congresses at Auburn University, emphasized the need for an inclusive, international organization devoted to both acoustics and vibration. This vision culminated in the official founding of IIAV in 1995.
In addition to his remarkable leadership, Professor Crocker is celebrated for his published works, including the "Handbook of Acoustics," the "Handbook of Noise and Vibration Control," and "Engineering Acoustics: Noise and Vibration Control," co-authored with Jorge P. Arenas. These texts are foundational in understanding and managing acoustics and vibration challenges across various fields.
Join us in celebrating Professor Crocker’s achievements and the rich history of IIAV, an organization born from his commitment to advancing acoustics and vibration science worldwide. Stay tuned for more in our IIAV Leadership Spotlight series, where we introduce the exceptional officers leading IIAV into the future.
