AUAS Summer School

In 2023 there will not be an extensive Summer School programme. Would you like to study at the Amsterdam University of Applied Sciences this summer? Then have a look at the Applied Quantum Computing Summer University instead. The Summer University takes place from 3 up until 14 July 2023. You are more than welcome to join!

Applied Quantum Computing summer course | AUAS Learn hands on skills and learn from experts about the potential of quantum computing and how it is being applied today.

Last weekend it was time for some social activities!
On Saturday, a number of students went canoeing and surfing in the morning. In the evening ARTIS Royal Zoo was the venue for the Summer Nights. Besides seeing all the animals and the beautiful gardens you could also listen to various bands that gave a performance.
On Sunday, some students went to the International Horticultural Exhibition Floriade in Almere. Check out all pictures!

On Wednesday a group of students of the Summer School took part in a guided city tour of Amsterdam. They visited several historical highlights and learnt about Dutch history and culture 🇧🇶. The city tour was part of the Summer School's social programme which includes many interesting activities outside of the educational programme. In this way, students are encouraged to meet and get to know one another. Furthermore, the social programme is optional to our students: they are free to join, but only if they want to!

Finally, our time of waiting has been rewarded! Last Monday, we welcomed 100 (!) students at the Amstelcampus to kickstart the AUAS Summer School 2022 🎉🎈🥳.

Our Summer School students, lecturers and staff were excited to finally meet each other and during the plenary opening ceremony they happily joined in on a ‘warming up’ with introductory games.

The first days of the Summer School have already proven to be a success. The students are positive about their courses and our lecturers in turn admire their effort and passion!

The AUAS Summer School takes place up until the 15th of July. We are looking forward to yet another exciting, inspiring and memorable week to come!

In recent years a considerable progress has taken place in the field of Quantum Computing with regard to hardware and software. Although fault tolerant full scale Quantum Computing is not expected within five to ten years, companies need to build up their expertise. The summer course Applied Quantum Computing offers several perspectives on Quantum Computing. During the course you will get an introduction to understanding and developing applications for Quantum Computing, learn about the international race to engineer a quantum computer, and learn to discern between reality and hype in relation to quantum computing.

𝑰𝑴𝑷𝑶𝑹𝑻𝑨𝑵𝑻: Would you like AUAS to arrange a place to stay for you during the AUAS Summer School? Then make sure to apply 𝐛𝐞𝐟𝐨𝐫𝐞 𝟐𝟐 𝐌𝐚𝐲! After this date, you can only apply for our courses without housing by AUAS. You will then have to look for a place to stay by yourself. Python is one of the most used programming languages. It has a very large user base and there is a wide variety of Python libraries available which make Python a useful language in many contexts. In the summer course Learning Python through Coding Music, the programming tool Earsketch will be used to learn the basic Python programming concepts such as loops, functions and variables. While learning Python is the main objective, you will also be working on your own music and beats.

Most classes take place in the Wibauthuis, one of the AUAS locations at the Amstelcampus. This 12-story building is located in the Wibautstraat and houses several degree programmes of the faculty of Business and Economics and the faculty of Applied Social Sciences and Law. The Wibauthuis has a garage ánd a bicycle cellar for over 1000 (!) bicycles. Within the buiding you may find a library and many cozy study spots. Behind the building you may fid the Wibauthof, an open square with Café Fest and approximately 60 student accommodations.

During this course you will become aware of the do's and don'ts in negotiations, learn how to communicate effectively across cultures and discover how to make sound business decisions. You will experience how the EU is managed and become aware of what works (and what doesn’t!). Join students and lecturers from Amsterdam and abroad for concise and upbeat lessons. A two-day field trip to the European Parliament and the European Commission in Brussels is included for learning 'in action'.
