uty — a folk tale, a street scene, a snippet of mythology—in exquisite detail on decorative boxes and panels. The Fedoskino school of Russian miniature art mainly utilizes oil paints, while boxes and panels from Palekh and Mstera use egg-based tempera overlaid with intricate gold leaf. In either case, this minute art is usually showcased on a background of jet black lacquer, giving the intricate scenes amazing dimensionality. Phoenix Lacquer Art showcases the best of these display boxes, and in 2010, we applied this technique to fountain pens, with inspiring results. The custom made Italian bodies, fine 18k gold nibs and reliable power-filler mechanisms are just the beginning of the story; as the art, itself, captures the unique fantasy and history of the Russian people. It takes over six weeks to decorate a single fountain pen, meaning that, by necessity, runs are extremely limited, and all pens are one-of-a-kind. Based out of the Netherlands (EU), Phoenix Lacquer Art distributes these wonderful fountain pens through the finest retailers in Paris, Belgium, the Netherlands, the US and Singapore. Our artisans create striking images due to the passion they put into their art.
