De Ateliers is an independent artists' institute which is run by visual artists.

It focuses on the artistic development of young, talented artists from within the Netherlands and abroad.

01/02/2022

De Ateliers is now open for applications for the next working year, starting January 1, 2023.

De Ateliers is an artists’ institute open to artists at the beginning of their professional career. It offers a twenty-month studio and tutoring programme that is best tailored to the needs of highly motivated artists who wish to strengthen their artistic foundation, develop their ideas and deepen their practice in a focused, critical environment among peers from around the globe. The programme is centred around weekly individual studio conversations, with regular and guest tutors, most of whom are practicing artists. The aim is to create a better understanding of one’s artistic position and process by offering a multiplicity of perspectives and critical feedback.

The individual and intensive nature of the De Ateliers programme, with weekly one-on-one studio visits by tutors on Tuesdays, demands a highly motivated and committed attitude. For those artists who are actively looking for regular critical feedback and who have an open attitude towards a wide range of artistic voices and opinions, the generous time and space the De Ateliers programme offers can produce a life changing experience.

The deadline to apply for the working period 2023–24 (January 1, 2023 – August 31, 2024) is April 1, 2022 11:59pm CET.

Please find the complete call and application form on our website.

From the back street alleys of offspring

Today we gonna listen to interviews, music, and mixes prepared by:

Mhm-Mhm - Mhm, mhm comes with his global conglomerate bearing gifts
- Tomomi
- Kumar
- Sydney Spann
- Nikita Gale

and - a conversation about light and gravity

- ‘Lament’ (3’40’’)
‘Lament’ has been composed with and for insects and is broadcasted every day at 18.00 at Jumbo, the next-door supermarket. It is announced in the exhibition, bringing visitors to the supermarket. Any person grocery shopping at that time becomes part of the audience.

Also: reading extracts from ‘Wild as in you drink milk out of the carton?’ (10’)
A series of dialogues between weeds and their human lovers. The project started with creating profiles for weeds on a dating app. The interactions between the sidewalk herbs and their human matches have created a series of semi-fictional meetings.

Brianna Leatherbury and Max Popov will be performing a new collaborative sound piece.

Always Hallways is the website accompanying the 2021 Offspring exhibition of De Ateliers. The website features content organised by the second-year De Ateliers participants which form the background process of their works and tangents that have influenced them. In conversation with the participants, this website is designed by students of the Werkplaats Typografie Master's programme in Graphic Design at ArtEZ University of the Arts in Arnhem.

The design of the website and its title are inspired by hallways as a repetitive motif which was prominent in the talks between the De Ateliers participants and the students of the Werkplaats Typografie Master's programme. Hallways are a distinctive feature of the architectural layout of the De Ateliers monumental building. It also turned out to be an important social part of the building in times of the pandemic, lockdowns and social isolation, in which the hallways became a semi-public space for mingling and taking breathers.
