Dear members,

This Thursday Susan Morrice, an experienced geologist and entrepreneur, will give a lecture on:

''The secret behind the Belize oil discovery and the Energy transforming lives''

Time: 27th of September, 12:30 – 13:30

Location: WN E-222 (WN building Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam)

This lecture will be interesting for geosciences but will also address the renewable energy and business. Susan Morrice is founding member and chairperson of: Belize Natural Energy (BNE), International Natural Energy (INE), CHx capital and Xjet Worldwide. In her lecture she will discuss how she managed to find oil in Belize with one drill, while 50 oil companies, over 50 years, spending $450 million failed.

As co-founder of the BNE she can provide us with an unique look into the benefits and development this organization brings to Belize. Most recently, Susan and the BNE team were awarded the highly competitive and prestigious 2017 Global “GetEnergy” Educational Award for the educational model that is at the core of the company. It is with great pride that Susan and the BNE team received this award, as this holistic educational system is the keystone of the company’s success.

Susan will share with us how her passion for geology, the of Belize and her people has changed her mindset and resulted in her being able to use the full potential of her mind. This change in mindset has amongst other things resulted in the discovery of the Belize oil, which now results in the development of the country. So geologists can make an incredible difference.

Because the mindset of a person is of such great important in his/her work it is said that: ‘’Oil is first found… in the minds of men’’.

We hope to see you all this Thursday.

Kind regards,

AAPG/SPE Sc. Amsterdam

We are pleased to announce that our colleagues of the SPE Student Chapter Utrecht have organized an event on the 30th of May!
Together with Baker Hughes they will host an industry focused Petrophysics and Geology workshop;

Under the close supervision of three distinguished professionals working at Baker Hughes coming from different disciplines in geosciences, you will have the opportunity to work on a dataset of real industry data. The idea is simple: every attendant will be assigned to a group where each member will take on a different role (Geophysicist, Geologist, Petrophysicist, Reservoir Engineer etc.). At the end of the afternoon, each team will have the chance to make a case for the exploration and production of the well.

This event will be of interest to all geoscience students interested in pursuing an industry career. Both members and non-members of SPE SC Utrecht will be allowed to register. To do so please mail us on [email protected], together with your preferred team role. You can register as a team or as an individual, in which case we will put you in a team.

For technical inquiries about the dataset, and logistical questions you can also reach us on [email protected].
(Lunch and social drink after the workshop are included)

Regards,

SPE Student Chapter Utrecht

At the end of August the students of the SPE Amsterdam chapter together with the students of the SPE Utrecht chapter went to beautiful Madrid with the SPEx excursion! We had a wonderful time and visited some of the many cultural highlights Madrid has to offer.
We would like to express our gratitude to Repsol and Cepsa for the warm welcome and the very interesting presentations both companies organized for our group during the very informative company visits!
