When driving change, we know leaders are essential.

But here’s the real challenge: How can they model the change effectively?

That’s where If-Then Plans come in.

This simple yet powerful tool helps leaders:
🔗 Tie key behaviors to specific triggers.
🧩 Make their actions deliberate and repeatable.
🔄 Track progress and adapt based on results.

For example:
IF a meeting gets heated,
THEN the leader takes a moment to ask reflective questions and refocus the team.

It’s about making leadership behaviors consistent, visible, and actionable—building trust and alignment across the organization.

Bridging the gap in organizational change: Why behavioral science units matter

A global healthcare organization wants to improve workplace culture. Leaders roll out a new set of company values, organize workshops, and encourage open discussions.

Months later, little has changed.

Employees still hesitate to share ideas. Meetings remain quiet. The enthusiasm fades. This not a failure of leadership, strategy, or intent. The issue is how change is approached.

Organizations often focus on what they want people to do, without addressing how behavior actually changes.

This is where Behavioral Science Units (BeSci Units) come in.

Most challenges aren’t just operational, they’re behavioral.

BeSci units help organisations prioritize these challenges and turn them into measurable business outcomes.

Core Change Thesis: The power of BeSci for Change Management 03/03/2025

🧠 Why behavioral science is the missing key in organizational change

If there’s one thing we’ve learned over the years working in organizational change, it’s this:

➡ Change doesn’t happen unless people change their behavior.

That’s the foundation of our work at Neurofied B.V..

It’s also the inspiration for our article “Our Core Change Thesis: Why BeSci is so Powerful for OCM”.

In the article, we break down:

🔍 Why most change initiatives fall short (hint: it’s not just strategy or tools)
🎯 How to use behavioral science to tackle resistance, biases, and low engagement
💡 Why actionable, measurable behaviors drive sustainable change

For leaders, transformation teams, and change managers, this perspective can be the difference between change fatigue and long-term success.

Core Change Thesis: The power of BeSci for Change Management This article explores the core change thesis behind Neurofied: Why is behavioral science so powerful for change management in organizations?

Change can be tough — but how we respond to it? Surprisingly predictable.

Cognitive biases often shape our reactions:
↳ Status quo bias: Preferring things to stay the same.
↳ Change fatigue: Feeling exhausted by constant change.
↳ Reactance bias: Resisting perceived loss of freedom.

One of the best ways to ease the stress of change? Psychological safety — an environment where people feel safe to:
↳ Ask questions
↳ Take risks
↳ Innovate without fear of negative consequences

As Amy Edmondson outlines in The Fearless Organization:
↳ Set the stage: Highlight why every contribution matters.
↳ Invite participation: Encourage open dialogue.
↳ Respond productively: Acknowledge input and address challenges constructively.

When people feel safe, change becomes an opportunity — not a threat.

Why behavior change stalls (and how to fix it):

Stuck trying to change behavior? The COM-B model breaks it down into 3 key parts:

🔹 Capability – Do they have the skills & knowledge? Do they need training?
🔹 Opportunity – Does the environment support the behavior? Are resources available?
🔹 Motivation – Do they want to? Is there a clear “what’s in it for them”?

If any of these are missing, change won’t stick.

3 simple questions to ask:
1️⃣ Can they do it?
2️⃣ Do they want to?
3️⃣ Is there a reason to do it now?

A simple BeSci model with big impact. Have you used COM-B or B=MAP before?👇

How do we equip stakeholders globally to drive meaningful change?

Since last year, Neurofied B.V. has been supporting a global healthcare leader on their Sustainable Rewards journey—creating a more transparent, equitable, and sustainable rewards system.

A key challenge: managing cultural and contextual differences. We found that a decentralized approach, where local stakeholders adapt strategies to their unique environments, works best.

To support this, we designed a behavioral change management toolkit, helping stakeholders drive the change that’s right for them.

With help from Roos van Duijnhoven, we trained over 100 Total Rewards and P&O representatives across the globe—from Argentina to Poland, applying behavioral science and change management tools that respect cultural nuances.

Excited to see how these leaders will take the next steps!

Change initiatives fail when they ignore the deep-rooted behaviors that drive people’s actions.

Managers push for change, but resistance is strong. Why? Because the approach overlooks the behavioral science that can make new behaviors feel natural.

People resist not because they don’t want to change, but because the process feels forced. Psychologists call this ‘reactance’: the more we perceive our freedom to decide is limited, the more we tend to assert ourselves.

But what if there was a way to create change that feels easy, even inevitable? Helping people adopt new behaviors effortlessly, without them feeling pressured or restricted.

Enter MINDSPACE—a framework grounded in behavioral science coined by the Behavioral Insights Team in the UK government. Designed to make change the “new normal” with ease and flow. MINDSPACE is not just a framework—it’s a strategy to make change feel natural, helping you achieve lasting results with minimal resistance.

Have you ever used MINDSPACE in your change communication?

If you'd like to learn more or want to apply this framework alongside other Evidence-Based Change Interventions, consider joining our Maven course on Behavioral Science for Change Management. The 5th cohort starts on April 1st.

Your mindset shapes your reality. 🌟And we shape our own mindset.

In other words: “Those who believe they can and those who believe they can’t, are often both right”.

If you’re facing resistance to change in your organization, consider this:
Are people viewing challenges as obstacles or as opportunities to grow? 🧠

Carol Dweck’s research shows that a growth mindset unlocks potential. It helps people: embrace challenges, value effort over talent, learn, adapt, and thrive.

This isn’t just personal—it’s cultural. Creating a growth mindset culture is exactly what organizations need to succeed today.
