No, you're probably assuming the wrong thing right now. ๐ค
This game, that is built by two of our students, you'd guess they were running some kind of 3D game engine. WRONG.
They built it with an old-school technique called ray-casting, basically math that tricks your eyes into seeing a 3D maze that's really just a 2D grid underneath. Same trick that made the very first FPS games possible, decades before "3D engines" were even a thing. ๐พ
No engine here either. They wrote all of it themselves...wall angles, distances. All of it were calculated live as you walk through the maze.
One of their peers genuinely didn't know what to say:
"This is so next level there are legit no words I can think of that do this justice. No emoji reaction either for that matter" ๐ญ
So yeah. Congrats Abdo and Luca, this one's insane. ๐ฅ
