Before this, I was working as a professional artist in New York City.

What I didn’t expect was how much I would fall in love with teaching children — stepping into their world of imagination, play, and endless possibilities.

That’s what brought me here, and why Art Lab exists today. 💛

Hiervoor werkte ik als professioneel kunstenaar in New York.

Wat ik niet had verwacht, was hoeveel ik zou gaan houden van het lesgeven aan kinderen — het binnenstappen in hun wereld vol verbeelding, spel en eindeloze mogelijkheden.

Dat is wat mij hier heeft gebracht, en waarom Art Lab vandaag bestaat. 💛

As a teacher, I often think about what we really wish for children as they grow.

We hope they feel seen.
We hope they stay curious.
We hope they learn to trust their ideas and express themselves.

Art creates space for all of this.

In my classes, children experiment, observe, imagine and make things with their own hands. Along the way they build confidence, friendships and happiness.

That is why art matters. 💛

Als docent denk ik vaak na over wat we kinderen echt toewensen terwijl ze opgroeien.

We hopen dat ze zich gezien voelen.
We hopen dat ze nieuwsgierig blijven.
We hopen dat ze leren vertrouwen op hun eigen ideeën en zichzelf durven uitdrukken.

Kunst geeft ruimte voor al deze dingen.

In mijn lessen experimenteren kinderen, observeren ze, gebruiken ze hun verbeelding en maken ze dingen met hun eigen handen. Onderweg bouwen ze zelfvertrouwen op, ontstaan er vriendschappen en ervaren ze geluk.

Daarom is kunst zo belangrijk. 💛

With our younger artists, we played “Paint DJ” 🎶🎨 — painting emotions inspired by different music styles and discovering how sound changes the way we feel and create. Our older artists built on their one-point perspective skills, creating 3D spaces and adding emotion into their compositions — learning that even structure and technique can carry feeling. Feeling first. Then learning how to express it. ⭐️

Met onze jongste kunstenaars speelden we “Paint DJ” 🎶🎨 — we schilderden emoties geïnspireerd door verschillende muziekstijlen en ontdekten hoe klank invloed heeft op wat je voelt én maakt.

Onze oudere kunstenaars bouwden verder aan hun kennis van éénpuntsperspectief. Ze creëerden 3D-ruimtes en voegden emotie toe aan hun composities — en ontdekten dat zelfs structuur en techniek gevoel kunnen dragen.

Eerst voelen. Dan leren hoe je dat kunt uitdrukken. ⭐️

For our older artists, it marks a new season of growth — exploring depth, dimension, and seeing their ideas step into space.

A winter of curiosity and creative confidence begins here. 💛

Voor onze oudere kunstenaars betekent het de start van een seizoen vol groei — diepte ontdekken, werken in perspectief en hun ideeën echt de ruimte geven.

In our first class of the season, the younger kids designed their covers using snowflakes, patterns, and winter colours — white, silver, gold and pops of colour on black.

A quiet moment of focus, excitement, and the joy of starting fresh. ✨

In de eerste les van het seizoen ontwierpen de jongere kinderen hun kaft met sneeuwvlokken, patronen en winterkleuren — wit, zilver, goud en kleur op zwart.

Een moment van concentratie, enthousiasme en zin om te beginnen. ✨

2025 at Art Lab ✨
A year full of curiosity, experiments, laughter, quiet focus, big imagination, and so much making together.

Each month brought a new theme — pop art, dream maps, weaving, plant prints, paper making, automatons, hedgehogs, and human faces — and every class reminded me how powerful it is when children are given the space to create freely, in their own way.

So grateful for the children, parents, and creative community who made this year what it was 💛

2025 bij Art Lab ✨
Een jaar vol nieuwsgierigheid, experimenten, lachen, stille concentratie, grote verbeelding en heel veel samen maken.

Elke maand had een eigen thema — pop art, droomkaarten, weven, plantafdrukken, papier maken, automaten, egeltjes en het menselijk gezicht — en elke les liet weer zien hoe krachtig het is wanneer kinderen de ruimte krijgen om vrij te creëren, op hun eigen manier.

Dankbaar voor alle kinderen, ouders en onze creatieve community die dit jaar zo bijzonder hebben gemaakt 💛
