recently i was deeply shocked when i heard this podcast interview by the Dutch organisation for Education, NVO, with orthopedagogue marieke beentjes (not on photo) who was proudly declaring her legalized child abuse; she gave an example of a boy who did not feel at place in school and wasn’t going because school could not offer what he needed. (it was a fictional story based on several stories and experience, they claimed later). when marieke came to pick him up with force to go to school, he locked himself in the toilet. a scared boy. she took him out and brought him to school in his pj where she left him 3 days screaming until he gave up.
this woman is a “professional” but in my opinion as a psychologist, she and her colleagues should absolutely not be allowed to work with or even come close to children. her attitude and way of working are an example of institutionalized heavy child abuse and i am raising my voice against this.
instead of abusing kids in this way (and then even feel very proud about it), we need to accept that school is not suitable for every kid and the obligation to go to school 5 days a week (while every adult can choose to work parttime) is highly outdated. we need to find solutions, not try to litterally force children in a system. - I agree Chris Muller
