Brainstorming session: How funding affects science

AMC researchers Stephanie Meirmans and Gerben ter Riet would like to invite interested postdocs to join a collaborative group session on
how competitive funding affects scientific practice.

They are looking for active researchers in their field, to share their experiences and views on how competitive research funding affects research practices, and also what could be improved. Any views expressed will stay stay anonymous, but as key gained insights will be directly communicated to key stakeholders, such as the Netherlands Organisation for Scientific Research (NWO) and the Netherlands Organisation for Health Research and Development (ZonMw), your contribution might have an impact on future funding decisions.

The session is part of Meirmans' and ter Riet's project “Follow the money: Does competitive research funding contribute to questionable research practices?” This project is carried out by Amsterdam UMC (University of Amsterdam) and funded by ZonMw. The project is also supported in kind by the Royal Netherlands Academy of Arts and Sciences (KNAW).

If you like to take part, you will join with 5-10 other researchers from your own area of expertise and your own academic level (first and foremost other medical postdocs). During the sessions, they will use special software that allows interaction and ensures anonymity, so please bring a laptop or iPad to the session.

The three-hour session will take place on Monday 24.09. 2018 from 10:00 until 13:30 at Leeszaal, Huis de Pinto, St. Antoniesbreestraat 69, 1011HB, Amsterdam (walking distance from Amsterdam central station and nearby the KNAW). Travel costs (public transport, second class or car) will be reimbursed .

Please let them know as soon as possible whether you will be able to join forces for this important and topical subject by sending an email to Stephanie Meirmans ([email protected]).

Thanks!
