'OE' in Dutch always sounds like OE in shoe...
Would you know how to say: My shoe is clean? Mijn schoen is schoon... Schoen & schoon sound different!

'Collecteren' in looks like to collect in English, but... in Dutch the meaning is far more specific. It means that you collect money for a good cause.. Een collecte voor het stroopwafelfonds (the stroopwafel foundation) 😉

If you need a loo in Dutch, then the word 'toilet' or 'w.c' will show you the right direction...

In other languages, such as Spanish, you may encounter different words. 'baño' (bath) for example or 'servicio'

So, if your native language is Spanish, then don't look for 'bad' or 'service' in Dutch 😉

'Een middag' in Dutch is literally a midday and it starts at 12.00 and it ends at 18.00

Many Dutch people look at their watch and if it is not 12.00 yet, then they will say 'goede morgen'.. And yes, with only 1 minute later, they will say 'goede middag' 😀

'Een hek' in Dutch can be a fence and... can you guess what hekje means?

Sometimes you need to type hekje, so it could be handy if you know what 'hekje' is 😉

'Vriend' is friend in Dutch, but only if the person is a man. 'Vriendin' is for a woman...

How does it work in your language? Is a friend just a friend or is there a special word for a man and a wonan?

'Wakker' & 'wekker' are easy to confuse. Wakker is awake, you are not sleeping...

'Wekker' is that practical and sometimes annoying little clock that wakes you up.

'Wekken' means that you wake up someone else... Would you know how to say I wake up in Dutch?
