You often hear people say that children are much better at learning a language than adults are, but, the truth is more complicated than that, and adults are also capable of learning a language to a native-like level!

A nice video from Korean Billy on some confusing terms that are different in Australian, American and British English!

These can cause massive misunderstandings, even between native English speakers! Particularly about crisps/chips/fries :)

Some slang words from Edinburgh in Scotland.

I'm originally from Edinburgh, and although Billy's pronunciation is not quite right, an Edinburgh native would understand and definitely appreciate the effort!

Billy's accent in general is very good, but his vowels are very different from how a Scottish person would say them! For example the way he pronounces the O in "most" , almost like "meuwst", is much closer to what you would hear in Received Pronunciation, an accent that only English aristocracy tend to have!

Start off the new year with a good book! Here are a few recommendations in different genres, with some advice for people working on improving their English!

Personally I think Dan Brown and Stephen King have a great simple writing style that should work for many people! If you're interested in personal relationships, books aimed at young adults should work well too - for example the very well-known Twilight series.
