That's a wrap. We had our last group meal together yesterday night at Cafe Restaurant Daulpine, and today everyone branches off their separate ways, most back home to the US. It was a fantastic experience, and , such a lovely host. Until next time! 🇳🇱

Our group lunch next to the zoo after an incredibly fascinating discussion with Dr. Annette de Groot, Emerita Professor of Experimental Psycholinguistics at University of Amsterdam. She talked with us about her research on the cognitive impacts of multilingualism, as well as the larger impacts of universities making English as a lingua franca the primary language of instruction. We all enjoyed the opportunity to learn from her!

I can't even wrap my head around everything we've done over the past few days, but here's an attempt. Antwerp and Ghent in Brussels over the weekend, and Utrecht today. Such beauty in these cities.

In Leeuwarden, the capital of the Netherlands province of Friesland, we visited Campus Frysian of the University of Groningen. Friesland was separated from from Holland for a time and has its own language, West Frisian, which it has worked hard to preserve. Frisian is one of the national languages of the Netherlands, and residents of the province are typically trilingual, speaking Frisian, Dutch, and English. We met faculty and doctoral students and spent time in the Oude Friesmuseum

Over the past two days, we've learned about the history of the English language and it's growth in use. We also visited Tropenmuseum, Hermitage Amsterdam, and NEMO Science Museum, all with free admission using the Museumkaart card that was part of our course fees. NEMO has a sky deck with breath-taking views of the city.
