Dutch summer school/Zomerschool Nederlands
Small groups, surprisingly affordable!

This summer we will study Dutch intensively. You will have three hours of class each day. During these hours we will pay attention to the different language skills. Besides the general language skills speaking, writing, reading and listening we will also work on your pronunciation and grammar! The goal is to get your language level from 0 to A1 or A2

Vanwege de lockdown is de school in Amsterdam en Utrecht helaas gesloten t/m 17 januari 2021. De nieuwe groepscursussen beginnen daarom een week later (vanaf 18 januari).

Tijdens de lockdown kun je online privélessen volgen met 50% korting! Samen met de docent werk je doelgericht aan de onderdelen van het Nederlands waar je moeite mee hebt. Hierdoor kun je in een korte tijd veel verbeteren aan je Nederlands! De lessen zijn mogelijk voor alle niveaus.

Due to the lockdown the school in Amsterdam and Utrecht is closed till the 18th of January. Therefor the new group courses will start one week later (in the week of the 18th January).

Sinterklaas – English below

Op 5 december vieren we in Nederland het Sinterklaasfeest.
Sinterklaas brengt cadeautjes naar alle lieve kinderen. Stoute kinderen gaan in de zak en worden meegenomen naar Spanje. De avond van 5 december heet ook wel pakjesavond. Het woord ‘pakje’ betekent hier ‘cadeautje’. Het is dus een cadeautjesavond!

Kinderen krijgen cadeautjes, maar ook volwassenen vieren Sinterklaas. Volwassenen trekken lootjes (briefjes met namen van personen). Ze maken een surprise met een cadeautje en een gedicht voor de persoon op het briefje. Sinterklaasgedichten rijmen altijd. Hier volgt een Sinterklaasgedicht!

Amsterdam en Utrecht zijn grote steden.
Daar woonden vooral Nederlanders in het verleden,
maar de steden zijn nu internationaal
en iedereen spreekt een andere taal.
Sommigen spreken Engels, anderen Spaans en sommigen zelfs Chinees!
Alle nationaliteiten zijn hier geweest.

Sint loopt te b***n.
Hij spreekt niet alle talen!
Om toch met de mensen te kunnen communiceren,
hoopt hij dat heel Amsterdam en Utrecht Nederlands zal leren.
In het centrum tussen de grachten,
zit een taalschool op hen te wachten!

Namens RTS taalschool bedankt hij iedereen voor een mooi jaar

On the 5th of December we celebrate ‘Sinterklaas’ in the Netherlands. Saint Nicolas brings present to all children who have been sweet. Children that have been naughty go in the sack and will be taken to Spain with Saint Nicolas. The evening of the 5th of December is ‘pakjesavond’ The word ‘pakje’ means present in this sense. It’s an evening with a lot of presents!

Children get presents, but adults celebrate Sinterklaas too. Adults write their names on a piece of paper and draw someone’s ticket afterwards. They make a ‘surprise’ with a present inside and write a poem for the person on the ticket! Below you will find a Sinterklaas poem! The poem has to rhyme (see above in the Dutch version, the translation doesn’t unfortunately).

Amsterdam and Utrecht are big cities.
In the past there mainly lived Dutch people,
but the cities have become international
and everyone speaks a different language.
Some speak English, other Spanish and some even speak Chinese!
All nationalities have been here.

This makes Sinterklaas a bit sad,
since he doesn’t speak all languages!
To be able to communicate with all people,
he hopes all of Amsterdam and Utrecht will learn Dutch.
In the city centre between the canals,
a language school is waiting for them!
