Cultivating body awareness & embodied intelligence

The pose is where the training begins.

Breath under pressure.
Presence in discomfort.
Staying connected to the body when the mind wants to escape.

But the real test isn't on the mat.

It's later.

When life hits.
When stress rises.
When an old reaction reaches for control.

And somehow, there is a little more space than there used to be.

A steadier breath.
A clearer response.
A stronger ability to stay standing inside what you feel.

The pose ends.

The power stays.

Motherhood has become one of my deepest yoga practices.

Before becoming a mother, I understood yoga mostly through practice, philosophy, and study. Through motherhood, many of these teachings began to feel alive in everyday life.

In the teachings of the Bhagavad Gita, Krishna speaks about Karma Yoga (the Yoga of Action), Jñāna Yoga (the Yoga of Knowledge), and Bhakti Yoga (the Yoga of Devotion).

In the Yoga Sutras of Patañjali, Patañjali speaks about Kriya Yoga through Tapas (wholehearted disciplined effort), Svadhyaya (self-study), and Ishvara Pranidhana (devotion and surrender).

Through motherhood, I began to experience the connections between these teachings more deeply.

Karma Yoga, in the endless cycle of care — feeding, holding, comforting, and showing up again and again, whether I feel strong or exhausted.

Tapas, in the wholehearted effort it takes to continue with love, even in difficult moments.

Jñāna Yoga and Svadhyaya, in the quiet self-study that motherhood brings. Learning to understand my child, and also myself — my reactions, my limits, my patience, my tenderness.

Bhakti Yoga and Ishvara Pranidhana, in loving unconditionally, without asking for reward, and caring without needing recognition.

Through yoga, I have learned to practice with wholehearted effort, to observe myself honestly, and to let go of attachment to outcomes. These teachings feel alive in motherhood in a way I never understood before.

I am deeply grateful to be a mother to my daughter.
Grateful for my own mother, whose love shaped me.
And grateful to all mothers and caregivers whose love often goes unseen.

Honouring all mothers this Mother’s Day ❤️

Yoga doesn't promise a life untouched by difficulty.

What it offers is a way to stay rooted when life gets heavy.

Breath that steadies.
Presence that keeps you from disappearing into the moment.
A body that learns it can stay with what is true without collapsing into it.

The darkness may still be there.
But practice changes how you meet it.

Not untouched.
Not unaffected.
Just less likely to lose yourself inside it.

April is a season of renewal.

But renewal doesn’t always mean becoming something new.
Sometimes, it’s about letting go—of the belief that we are not enough.

Through practice, we begin to see more clearly.
Not that we are lacking, but that our view has been clouded.

And as the noise softens, we start to recognize what has always been there—

our intrinsic goodness,
our inner beauty.

What does renewal feel like for you in this season?

Save this post to return to when you need a reminder of your inner beauty💕

The Year of the Horse invites motion over perfection.
Momentum over hesitation.
Embodiment over overthinking.

In practice, this is where clarity becomes action.
Where breath becomes movement.
Where intention becomes experience.

Growth does not require perfection.
Only the willingness to explore.

One breath. One conscious movement. One step at a time.

Courage. Onward. Forward.

We return to this practice each week.

🪷This photo holds 11 years of learning, distance, return, and deep gratitude.🪷

11 years ago, my teacher handed me my very first certificate for Foundation Yoga Teacher Training. At that time, my initial intention was simply to deepen my own yoga practice. I resonated deeply with Patrick’s teaching and witnessed meaningful transformation through applying his teachings both on and off the mat.

In the same year I received my certificate, I relocated to Amsterdam. Being so far away from my teacher was the last thing I ever wished for. I remember thinking that the best way to stay connected to his teachings, and to truly embody them, was to teach. So I began teaching in local yoga studios, and the greatest motivation that kept me going as a yoga teacher was hearing from students who benefited from the practice.

A few years later, I returned to Patrick to complete my advanced teacher training. Continuing to learn from the same teacher felt important to me, to deepen my understanding, refine my practice, and stay rooted in the integrity of his teachings.

Fast forward to 2025, I was grateful to be selected as one of the mentees in Patrick’s 4-month mentorship program. During this time, we refined our skills in sequencing yoga classes, sharpening our verbal instructions, and skillfully weaving yoga philosophy into a modern yoga class.

The biggest takeaway from this mentorship was not only the refined knowledge Patrick generously passed on, but how deeply the program shifted the way I see myself. His teachings and wisdom continue to support my personal growth, helping me evolve both as a teacher and as a human being.

I am forever grateful to have met my teacher Patrick in this lifetime. His patience, support, and steady guidance have helped me not only grow as a yoga teacher, but also guided me toward knowing myself more deeply.

I’ll be sharing a short testimonial soon about how Patrick’s mentorship has supported me in my teaching and personal growth, stay tuned 💚
