Civic innovation has always been at the centre of my practice and research interest!! Yesterday I went to see a great talk about prototyping for cities by Matthew Claudel a MIT PhD + research + writer + all around urban innovation master! He compares Boston, Montreal and Amsterdam in his PhD research and made me proud of La Pépinière I Espaces Collectifs, of Montreal and of Quebec society in general! Watch his TEDx from last year!! Its worth it! 👌🤓🦸♂️🌇🤖🏙🧠

These days I write about global trends and how people living in 2050 will be '🤬🥵☠️💩🥶' if we don't change our behaviours.
Here are 4 crazy scary trends:
OVER CONSUMPTION: At the moment, we need 1.75 planets to sustain our consumption and we will need 3 planets to feed the 9.8 billion humans in 2050;
GLOBAL WARMING: Since the industrial revolution, humans have caused a 1°C increase in temperature, a 2°C increase will cause serious disruption and a 5°C would be catastrophic for human existence;
POLLUTION: In 2018, 37 billion tones of CO2 were release by burning fossil fuel. This represent the highest level of CO2 in the last 3 million years. Moreover, in 2050, plastic will be in 99% of all animals.
6th MASS EXTINCTION: We lost more than 60% of Earth’s biodiversity since 1970. In Central America, South America and the Caribbean the problem is even worst as they lost 89% of their vertebrate species during the same period (WWF, 2018:6)
Usually I am a very optimistic person. But more I read and understand global dynamics, more I get scared. Changing our behaviours is hard since we don't want to lose our comfort. The question I have at the moment is: Will humanity be able to prioritise the planetary needs instead of their own before it is too late? Will you?
I am! 💪 and urge you to be proactive while there is still hope. 🙏

Today, it is more important than ever for cities develop a strong vision and implement restrictive regulations to reduce Co2 emissions. Amsterdam is an amazing example as the city will ban all gas and diesel powered cars in the city by 2030. 🥳That's being audacious AF! Looking forward to see which other European cities will follow! 😎
