Hey allemaal! Ik ben Yannick, 25 jaar en jullie kennen mij misschien al als een bestuurslid van SRVU vorig jaar. Dit jaar ben ik de voorzitter van SRVU en ik zal ik samen met mijn andere bestuursleden knokken tegen de bezuinigingen op onderwijs en voor betaalbaar onderwijs voor iedereen en ga ik me inzetten voor meer vrijheid voor studenten op de campus. Ik ben de portefeuillehouder van huisvesting en zal als voorzitter het overzicht bewaren waar de vakbond zich mee bezighoudt, dus voor vragen kun je altijd langskomen in Studentend0k, je zult me daar vaak in ons kantoor vinden!

Hey everyone! I’m Yannick, 25 years old and you might know me as a board member of SRVU last year. This year I’m the chair of SRVU and together with my other board members I will fight against the cuts in education and for affordable education for all and for more freedom for students on campus. I am the portfolio holder of housing and as chairman I will keep an overview of what the union is doing, so for questions you can always come by in Studentend0k, you will often find me there in our office!

SRVU and ROSA proudly present Decolonisation and Resistance, an event that dives deep into the global fight for justice. 🔻

Join us on October 30th at 18:45 at StudentD0k (Main Building VU) for a transformative discussion on West Papua, climate change, and decolonisation.

We’re honored to welcome Raki Ap, an advocate for West Papua, who will shed light on the intersection of resistance and climate justice.

Also, don’t miss a compelling spoken word performance by JAE, VU alumnus and artist, as they explore decolonisation and Black feminism through poetry.

After the event, stick around for drinks and chats to connect, share stories, and reflect on your own experiences with decolonisation. This is a space for learning, empowerment, and community.

Last but not least: a recap of June! ✨

Sustainability 🌱: last month we hosted our final Clothing Exchange of the year. Together with KallioPPE, Icarus, FAM, Amnesty Amsterdam and VU Campus Radio we made it the biggest clothing market of the year! A special thanks to our sustainability-man Bart for hosting the monthly clothing exchanges this year. 💚

Wellbeing ❤️‍🩹: we hosted a Poetry Workshop in collaboration with VU Pride! We want to thank everyone for joining and letting their creativity out 🌈💭

External 📣: to celebrate the end of the year and all the successful events we organized together, we had a dinner with multiple Bridging Succes associations. Thanks to VU’s Diversity Office for their crucial role in this! Additionally, we attended the ALV of the LSVb (national student union). We wish the next board the best of luck! 🍀

Internal 🗣️: we hosted our Summer Event for all Studentend0k-associations. We had a fun Arcade Night at Club Puck! 👾 We also hosted a 80’s themed borrel with our dear Icarus! 🪩🕺🏼
Halfway June, we held our last ALV/GMM of this academic year where the candidate board for next year was voted in! We’ve been having multiple transfer activities last month and we wish them the best of luck! ❤️🧡

Afgelopen zaterdag 22 juni protesteerden wij samen met de LSVb en lokale bonden in Utrecht tegen de langstudeerboete en andere desastreuse bezuiningen op studenten en onderwijs. Studeren is een recht voor iedereen, ook mensen zonder rijke ouders of met een functiebeperking. Dit protest was slechts het begin, we zullen niet rusten totdat de langstudeerboete is ingetrokken. Word lid van je lokale studentenvakbond om te helpen bij toekomstige acties! ✊🏽🚩

Last Saturday, the 22nd of June, we protested in Utrecht together with the LSVb and local unions against the study delay fine and other disastrous budget cuts to students and education. Studying is a right for everyone and that includes students without wealthy parents and students with disabilities. This protest was only the beginning, we will not rest until the study delay fine is retracted. Join your local student union to help out with future actions! ✊🏽🚩

A short recap of the previous month May has finally arrived! ✨

Sustainability 🌱: another Clothing Exchange was hosted on May 15th in collaboration with Icarus and KallioPPE! 👚🩲

Education 📖: SRVU helped organize the “We need to talk about Democracy” evening on May 22nd. At this informative evening, various speakers gave their insights into what democracy at university means and what a more democratic university would look like.

Participation 🗳️: last month we held our very last Tosti Break of this academic year. We enjoyed engaging with students and making SRVU visible for the last time via this way! 🥪

Internal 🗣️: we held a Board Information Session to inform interested students about a board year at SRVU. Last month was largely decicated to finding a new board, and we did! Stay tuned to meet the new board for academic year 2024/2025! 🤫🎈

Last but not least: SRVU and NewConnective co-organized a dialogue on May 8th, where VU students had the opportunity to share how they have experienced and are experiencing the Israeli-Palestinian conflict. Students shared vulnerable and emotional experiences and input was given for VU’s future policy on making students feel seen, heard, and safe on campus regarding this subject. Possibly to be continued in further dialogue sessions! 🗣️💭
