🔲 Turning design ambition into a yacht that works: MY Ursus

A successful rebuild is about much more than what is visible on the surface. Behind the design sits a complex balance of naval architecture, structural engineering, systems integration, weight, space, serviceability and buildability.

For the rebuild of MY Ursus at Balk Shipyard, Mulder Design was responsible for the naval architecture and engineering, working closely with the yard and project team to translate the design and operational requirements into a technically integrated yacht.

That is where engineering adds real value: not as something separate from the design, but as the foundation that makes the complete yacht work.

🔲 Introducing the 50-metre Apex Concept,now in a sub-499 GT configuration

Following our 60-metre Apex Concept, Studio Mulder Design is pleased to present a 50-metre variant of the platform.

By staying below 499 GT, it pairs the presence of a full-custom motor yacht with the operational advantages of a sub-500 GT vessel,lighter manning, reduced regulatory scope and lower running costs, without compromising on volume or design ambition.

Naval architecture and exterior styling developed entirely in-house. 50.00m LOA, twin MTU engines, a top speed of 33 knots and a transatlantic range of 3,500 nm.

🔲 Have a look at this video of the Al Dhaen DB 380SC, the first result of the collaboration between Studio Mulder Design and Al Dhaen Boats.

Built around a stepped V-hull with a fine bow entry, the Al Dhaen DB 380SC delivers predictable handling and confident performance offshore. Its true walkaround layout, ergonomic helm station, and well-appointed cabin with pantry and head bring genuine versatility for both day trips and overnight cruising.

More than a single model, the DB 380SC sets the design DNA for a new range from Al Dhaen and Studio Mulder Design, spanning roughly 25 to 56 feet across centre console and cabin configurations.

🔲 M/Y Spectre visited Amsterdam last week, and it's always a proud moment to see her.

The 69-metre Benetti motoryacht represents our ninth collaboration with the Staluppi family, and remains one of the most recognised yachts in her class. Since her delivery, Spectre has earned four international awards, including the World Superyacht Awards' Best Displacement M/Y (500–1,999 GT) and the Asia Boating Awards' Best Custom-Built Yacht in 2019.

🔲 60-Metre Apex Concept

This design by Mulder Design presents the Apex Concept, a 60-metre motor yacht. Both the naval architecture and exterior styling have been developed entirely in-house by the Dutch design studio.

The Apex Concept has been developed around a performance-oriented brief. Twin MTU 20V4000M93L main engines deliver a combined output of 8,600 kW (11,532 hp), enabling a top speed of 28 knots at light load.

The yacht is capable of a high-speed cruising speed of 22 knots, while at a long-range cruising speed of 12 knots the vessel achieves a range of 4,500 nautical miles, positioning the Apex Concept firmly within the extended deep-water passage segment.

The aluminium hull and superstructure measure 60.00 metres in length, with a beam of 10.70 metres and a draught of 2.60 metres. Onboard accommodation is provided for 12 guests and 14 crew. The interior design may be fully tailored to the owner’s wishes.

🔲 MY Ursus has received a Judges' Commendation in the Rebuilt Yachts category at the 21st BOAT International World Superyacht Awards in Venice, and we couldn't be prouder.

Relaunched in 2025, M/Y Ursus is a remarkable transformation, preserving the yacht's original charm while significantly enhancing her capabilities. Built by Balk Shipyard with naval architecture and design by Mulder Design, this two-year rebuild delivered one incredible result.

A huge thank you to our owners for making this possible, to every craftsman at Balk Shipyard, and everyone else involved in this build.
