Support of children; Medical services; Sponsorships

Located in the heart of a very poor district in Nicaragua's capital city Managua, Asociación AHIMSA helps the children and adults with different sort of activites:

-For one, there is a government-financed medical service 3 times a week. For many of the 30,000 people in this district this is the only option for medicine and medical advice.

-Secondly, the library with over 6000 books is a great

and suitable place for the children to do their homework. It also provides the children that are attending schools, the necassary school books, since some of them can't afford those.Of course there is also reliable internet access.

-Furthermore, there is professional psychological advise for both children and adults. The psychologist attended a prestigious school in Europe, however, her roots go back to this city and culture, and therefore she is of great importance for many people in this district. The assistance especially concentrates on psychological problems such as depressions, relationship problems, (school) behavior problems, hyperactivity (ADD) and unresolved grief of any kind.

-Every year, two or more german volunteers agree to work with the children and adults. This not only offers the people a great deal of intercultural exchange, but also allows them to enjoy many activities when there is nothing better to do. We currently offer a wide-range of activities which include piano lessons, circus-skills, drawing/painting, english class, handicraftworks, dancing and many more!

-In addition, AHIMSA is currently sponsoring school clothes, school-costs and regular meals for over 165 children.This offers the children a possibility for education and more, a better future.

-There is also the partner-family care program, which ensures assistance for families that deal with one or more of the following problems: domestic violence, sexual abuse, child custody disuptes and alimony claims. In addtion, there are classes which target the young girls in our society to clarify them about sexual abuse, sexual health and violence. We also offer clases that involve around the managment of financing a micro-credit project of a small business.

En Ahimsa hay muchas veces charlas sobre temas importantes como salud, sexualidad, medio ambiente y derechos de la mujer.

Cada año vienen dos voluntarios/voluntarias de Alemania que apoyan a Ahimsa por 12 meses. Trabajan con niños del Barrio Memorial Sandino y realizan talleres creativos y proyectos sociales con ellos. Además ofrecen un curso gratis de inglés para los adolescentes. Voluntarios/-as del barrio les apoyan mucho. En este álbum puede ver su trabajo.

Hola, somos las voluntarias del año 2014-2015. Somos Jahaira, estudiante y voluntaria nicaragüense, y Jelena y Janika de Alemania. Aquí presentamos nuestro proyecto creativo "nuestra aldea" que realizamos con los niños cada martes en la mañana.
