Study 50: December 11, 2016 - 2nd Sunday in Advent
Sub-theme: Our Heritage of Faith
Topic: The Certainly of Our Heritage
Texts: Hebrews 6:17-19; Luke 2:25-27
Aims: (i) To recognise that God Almighty Himself guarantees our heritage of faith; (ii) To appreciate the basis of the unfailing nature of our heritage of faith.

Introduction: God created human beings with a will so that man can freely choose what to believe or how to relate with God. That invariably determines what he receives from God. God’s personality (I John 1:9) assures us that we will neither be denied nor will He go back on what He has promised us. His Word is true and unchanging; He does not double deal. These guarantee our heritage of faith in God. Our heritage of faith has two broad aspects: what we receive/become at salvation (John 5:24; 3:36; 1:12; Mark 7:25-28) and what we will receive in glory (e.g. John 14:1).
Study Guide

(a) Have we received and become what He promised (John 1:12; Romans 1:16; Acts 1:8)? (b) What hope is there then that there is a kingdom, mansions, and rewards for us in glory?Generally, what is the basis of assurance of entering our heritage of faith, Hebrews 6:18; II Corinthians 1:20; John 14:1?(a) How does God demonstrates the certainty of His promises and ensures His children enter their heritage, Luke 2:25-27; Jeremiah 4:28; 1:12? (b) What is man’s part in this? Hebrews 11:6’ Luke 1:54-55.(a) Why has God guaranteed His promises, Hebrews 6:17-19?
(b) What is the relevance of this to our walk with God today? Hebrews 6:17-19.

Conclusion: God works to ensure the fulfillment of His covenant with us and His heritage in our progeny. He does this so that we might serve Him without fear, in holiness and righteousness before Him all our days. If we are willing and obedient, we will eat the good of the land (Isaiah 1:19). As for God, His word is immutable; He watches over His word to perform it.
Food for Thought: The zeal of the Lord fulfils His promises in our lives

Memory Verse: Hebrews 6:18.

THE SCHOOL CALLED MARRIAGE

Marriage is the only school where you get the Certificate before you start.

It's also a school where you will never graduate.

It's a school without a break or a free period.

It's a school where no one is allowed to drop out.

It's a school you will have to attend every day of your life.

It's a school where there is no sick leave or holidays.

It's a school founded by God:

1.On the foundation of love.

2.The walls are made out of trust.

3.The door made out of acceptance.

4.The windows made out of understanding

5.The furniture made out of blessings

6.The roof made out of faith.

Be reminded that you are just a student not the principal.

God is the only Principal.

Even in times of storms, don't be unwise and run outside.

Keep in mind that, this school is the safest place to be.

Never go to sleep before completing your
assignments for the day.

Never forget the C-word...Communicate.

Communicate with your classmate and with the Principal.

If you find out something in your classmate (spouse) that you do not appreciate,

Remember your classmate is also just a student not a graduate,

God is not finished with him/her yet.

So take it as a challenge and work on it together.

Do not forget to study the Holy Book (the main textbook of this school).

Start each day with a sacred assembly and end it the same way.

Sometimes you will feel like not attending classes, yet you have to.

When tempted to quit find courage and continue.

Some tests and exams may be tough but remember,

the Principal knows how much you can bear and yet

it's a school better than any other.

It's one of the best schools on earth;

joy, peace and happiness accompany each lesson of the day.

Different subjects are offered in this school, yet love is the major subject.

After all the years of theorizing about it, now you have a chance to practice it.

To be loved is a good thing, but to love is the greatest privilege of them all.

Marriage is a place of love, so love your spouse.
More grace from God.

Send this to all your married friends to encourage them, and to your unmarried friends to counsel and educate them.
