Brucellosis: A Major Cause of Abortion in Livestock
​Brucellosis is a highly contagious bacterial disease that affects cattle, bison, buffalo, pigs, sheep, goats, dogs, and horses. It can also infect humans (zoonotic).
​One of the most devastating effects in livestock is abortion, often occurring during the last trimester. It also causes retained placentas and reduced milk production. This disease can cause significant economic losses for farmers and ranchers.
​Early detection is key to prevention and control. Tests, like the one shown here, help manage the disease in herds and protect animal welfare.
