Leveraging LinkedIn for Career Growth — IETA Forward Program Cohort II Session

As part of our ongoing commitment to shaping future-ready student leaders, the IETA Forward Program Cohort II held an impactful session on LinkedIn Optimization & Professional Communication. To empower participants with practical tools to navigate today’s digital career landscape.

Our speaker, Abdulwahab Lukman, emphasized why LinkedIn is no longer optional for students:
it is a global marketplace of opportunities where skills, visibility, and networking directly influence employability. He walked the participants through:

âś… Why LinkedIn matters: how employers actively use it to identify, screen, and evaluate candidates.
✅ How students can navigate the platform: from understanding LinkedIn’s ecosystem to building meaningful professional connections.
âś… Profile Optimization: using effective summaries, relevant keywords, compelling achievements, and a strong visual identity to stand out.
âś… Maintaining a strong profile: posting valuable content, engaging with industry leaders, and showcasing growth consistently.
âś… Opportunity positioning: how a well-curated LinkedIn profile can secure internships, job placements, fellowships, mentorships, and global exposure.

Beyond technical skills, the session also explored the importance of professional conduct, including:
– Communicating with clarity and respect
– Building a positive digital footprint
– Engaging thoughtfully with peers and professionals
– Demonstrating reliability, intentionality, and emotional intelligence online

This session furthers our goal of equipping young people with the tools to not only excel academically, but to thrive in the evolving world of work.
