LET'S CORRECT THIS ERROR
(A) Scale through
(B) Sail through
The mentioned (A) and (B) are usually misused by many English speakers. Consider the following examples for clarification:
Mudi has scaled through his exams ❌
Mudi has sailed through his exams ✔️
NB: You ‘sail through’ when you pass an exam, a test, etc. without any difficulty. However, ‘scale’ is used with hurdle. Example; Mudi has scaled the hurdle.

ENROL TO M.U.M TO POLISH YOUR WRITTEN AND SPOKEN ENGLISH
It is improper to hide under the expression ‘English is not my mother tongue, therefore I must not speak it correctly’ and confuse words or nouns on account of their similarity in meaning or whatsoever.
Dear reader, do your best to avoid the following confusion henceforth.
(A) Air
(B) Wind
The item (A) refers to what we breathe – for example, fresh air gives us good health – while the item (B) refers to what makes the leaves move – for example, the strong wind blew my papers away.

WRITE AND SPEAK GOOD ENGLISH AT M.U.M CENTRE FOR ENGLISH STUDIES
As clearly stated by the Indian Author of Contemporary English Grammar, Jayanthi Dakshina Murthy, English is very much controlled, conditioned and regulated by grammar. Hence, it is, without recourse to grammar, impossible for anyone to speak and write this language correctly.
TWO PHRASAL VERBS THAT ARE USUALLY MISUNDERSTOOD
(A) Take back [past: took back]
(B) Take down [past: took down]
The later phrasal verb (B) means ‘write.’ Example: I told her to take down my words correctly [meaning to write my words correctly]. The former (A), however, means ‘withdraw.’ Example: Mercy was to marry me but she took back her decision [meaning she withdrew her decision to marry me].

LEARN PUNCTUATION MARKS AT M.U.M CENTRE FOR ENGLISH STUDIES
Punctuation marks which could be defined as the use of standardized marks in written or printed materials to help make the meaning clearer, are to a great extent the properties of paragraph and if not properly used could lead to even a war.
Consider the following example:
A. No more killing please!
B. No, more killing please!
The former expression (A) – without a comma (,) preceding the word ‘more’ – requests for a discontinuance of the killing while the later (B), with the comma (,) following the word ‘No’ requests for a continuation of the killing.
The power of punctuation marks in written English language is beyond power. For it can lead to killings as cited in the above example.
Enrol to M.U.M Centre for English Studies to learn how to punctuate your writing.
