National Association of Agricultural Students, University of Maiduguri (NAASUM)
joins the global community in celebrating World Animal Day, a day dedicated to raising awareness and advocating for the welfare of every living creature—big or small, wild or domestic.

Animals play an important role in our lives, ecosystems, and agricultural systems. They provide food, companionship, economic value, and contribute to the balance of nature. Yet, too many species suffer neglect, cruelty, and habitat loss.

As students and future leaders in agriculture, NAASUM recognizes the responsibility to speak up for animals and promote humane treatment, ethical farming practices, and sustainable coexistence with wildlife. Protecting animal welfare is not just about compassion—it is about ensuring a healthier planet and a brighter future for all.

On this World Animal Day, we call on everyone to:

Show kindness and respect to animals in their care.

Support sustainable agricultural practices that safeguard both animals and the environment.

Advocate against cruelty, neglect, and exploitation of animals.

Educate communities on the importance of biodiversity and conservation.

On this special day, I want to wish all students of the Faculty of Agriculture and every Nigerian a Happy Independence Day.

Today reminds us of how far our country has come. Even though things may not be perfect, we must not lose hope. As students and young people, we are the future of this nation, and our hard work and unity will make Nigeria better.
